r1q2 breaks riptide strafing?

Howdy,

Has anyone else noticed this?

Older r1q2 builds up to at least b6756 used to work like the id Software 3.20 client, in terms of strafing into a moving current of water.  With these clients, you can easily strafe up/against the current in the waterways on cool1, and the waterfall on fusion.

However, between b6756 and b7431 of r1q2, this strafing ability became broken somehow.

Here's a demo showing a waterclimb and a strafe into the waterfall on fusion, to get the quad, recorded with an earlier build of r1q2 (b6756 probably)

I am not able to strafe at all against the current in r1q2 builds b7431 or later...

i certainly remember doing it with old builds, i havent tried it recently.

I'd hate to lose that, it does change many of the older type maps and sp maps.

You could turn your mouse from side to side sometimes and get going a little faster with it.

Great for smaller games where you need to gain position but on larger FFA's it's a little pointless.

Indeed.... It is essentially impossible to get the quad on fusion now... (for example) 

You could turn your mouse from side to side sometimes and get going a little faster with it.

Is this related to the water strafing?  Or regular speed jumping?

Confirmed it is a client side difference with r1q2.  On a r1q2 server, even the standard q2 client can get the quad easily.
