Screen size in Quake2
« on: January 25, 2008, 05:01:13 AM »
My video screen will not go all the way to full in the setup graphics video size. I can slide it to full but It goes backto where it was, If setting at full on the slider, using the arrow button, two clicks and thats where mine is. The only way it will goto full and stay, is if I use 800x600 resolution. Help please.

You need an autoexec file to load all your preferred settings, automatically when you start the game. This would include all your video settings, mouse settings, sensitivity, binds etc. You will never need to touch those slider controls again. And your game will probably improve....

Quake 2 i believe defaults to windowed mode on anything less than 800X600

If you go lower or higher than your monitor's resolution then it will probably not go fullscreen by itself. Whenever I try to play in 800x600 I have to alt+enter to get fullscreen but then my monitor starts to beep and whistle and the screen is deformed.
You could manually set the gl_mode to 6 (1024x768) or higher; in the console type gl_mode 6 and hit enter. If it goes into windowed mode hit alt+enter.

O.K. guy's, it doesnt go into window mode, I use 1024X768 on my desk top and in Q2, it is still in full screen mode but the viewing part of the game is smaller than the monitor. I wish I could post a pic of it to show you. The game view is to the left of monitor and to the top of monitor. About an inch and a half wide of the right side of monitor screen is black and about an inch of the bottom of the monitor is black.

I have used 800 x 600 mode since the game came out with monitors ranging from 14" up to 21" and it always has displayed full screen when I started the game. Even on my new laptop which has the cinematic 16:9 display, Quake will just stretch itself width-wise a bit and render full screen. So I really don't know what the problem is. If your config file is 1024 x 768 then it should always render that size regardless of monitor.

depends on the monitor and video card i guess, it might not like what your doing
i cant go past 800x600 in my display options, but it can still render anything lower than that if i force it

but then again, why would i play at such a resolution

Enter Quake and set it to full screen and the resolution you want and hit ESC. Once it's done refreshing exit Quake cleanly and it should save. Otherwise... dunno!
