Absinthe

Absinthe is finally available in Illinois! I'm going out tonight to pick up a bottle of Lucid.  Has anyone tried it?  I've been hearing mixed reviews...

If it is the new legal form which many stores are carrying now - I tried it a few months ago.  I heard all the stories and myths behind the stuff and wanted to try it for years.  So I had all kinds of hope.

Bought the bottle - the flavor is a strong minty licorice drink - strong anise flavor.  I had a hard time drinking a bunch of it.  The effects for me, were no different than a normal drunken feeling.  I almost drank the whole bottle and it wasn't unique in any way.

I am not sure if the real form of the stuff, would induce a different effect.  But from the things I have read, the stories behind the drink, were merely just stories.  Just a bunch of hype to get people to drink or avoid the stuff.  Also there is a process of preparing the drink, which makes it kinda of different.

I've heard that you should mix it half and half with Robitussin DM, to get the desired halucinatory effect.


j/k, but that might actually work. the DM goes with Jagermeister pretty well.

The "Lucid" brand is a verte absinthe.  It contains no thujone, which is the chemical that caused all the fuss back in the early 1900's.  I've had a few types of Absinthe when I was over in the Czech Republic a few years back and had some really good times. Anyway, I guess $45  for a bottle isn't so bad as it isn't as expensive as importing some myself.

And most statewide absinthe doesnt have nearly the same process as english and eastern versions, the affects are quite a bit different, over here it being mostly another alchoholic beverage
