If it's possible, I think it would be pretty cool, BBCode annoys me and there's some things you just can't do with it

Yes, like steal peoples login information and embed popup flash videos and a thousand other malicious things HTML allows. SMF has a pretty versatile set of BB code, I've not run into anything too limiting.

Well obviously there should be limits on what HTML to allow, like no scripts.  I'm more interested in the image, hyperlink, and embedding tags.  I just think YouTube videos would be much better embedded instead of linked to.

Maybe there is a BBCode for embedding that could be added?

doom3world.org uses phpbb3.  it has a lot of nice features.  BUT...  you can use bbcode to "embed" tube video with a preview thumbnail as you would anything else, boobtube just doesn't provide the code/thumb for you.

When you enable HTML you have to disable DHTML, PHP, javascript, and embed functionality. At that point it's the same as BB code except that with BB code < and > still work and code segments for programmers are much easier to take a look at. (especially javascript and HTML code segments)
