**PLEASE HELP** - RE: Anti-Cheat

Hi all,

The Last time I logged on to tastyspleen to play Q2 was August. I've been in grad school since and have had my nuts in a royal crunch. I logged on to play last night and it said I had to download the anticheat. This is new since I never had to before and I've been playing since April.

"No big deal" I thought.

So I went to the R1ch website to download it. I followed the instructions and put it in my Quake2 folder (C:/Quake2)....and when I tried to log on it tells me the same damn thing it told me before - download the R1ch anti-cheat. So I went back to the R1ch website and downloaded everything and put it in my Quake2 folder.

Nothing.

So then I restarted.

Nothing.

So then I went to the R1ch forums to post my issue there and it told me it was banning me because my computer was "doing an attack on his mini-Dos"...or somehting like that.

I don't even know what that means...but, I am the furthest thing from a Hacker.

For specs: I am running a brand new Dell laptop that I got in June 2007. It's a Dual Core Processor - 2.3Ghz. Nvidia 8600. And all the other bells and whistles.

Any help anyone on this forum could offer would be greatly appreciated. I mean, I suck royal ass at Q2 anyway...for the most part I get killed at least 15 times a game...and occasionally I've gotten as high as 14 on VANILLA...but for the most part part I usually hover around a 8 but either way, but I don't give a shit. I enjoy playing.

If someone could please walk me through what I'm doing wrong and tell me what I have to do to get the anticheat up and running that would be great. As a token of my appreciation I'll let you shoot a grenade in my face once we can get it up and running - which in a way, kind've works out because that's usually what happens anywyay.

All kidding aside...

Can someone please help me?

I'm not a cheater. I'm not a hacker. I'm just a regular everyday joe in grad school looking to blow off some steam and play some q2.

Hi,

Strange, I don't see any forced anticheat ranges on the server that should affect your IP.  (Judging by your forums IP anyway.)

In order to troubleshoot the problem, a couple questions:

What OS are you running?

Are you able to play on the server at all?  (I.e. I'm trying to ascertain whether it lets you play but you just get the "please upgrade to an anticheat client" message; or whether it completely blocks you from the game?)

The issue on r1ch's forums is due to the way IE or firefox connects to internet sites (multiple connections from 1 ip to speed up downloading, therefore the claim of a mini DOS attack), go back again and when you get the ban warning, read the fine print it tells you how to fix it and after an hour or so you will be able to connect to his forums site.

if I remember right, there is also a registry change required, r1ch hangs out on IRC on the ETG network on #tastyspleen channel. Just in case

Yeah I went into my registry to delete the two things that I needed to delete for the r1ch forum.

I have no idea what that means....not because you're not articulating it well enough....I'm sure you are...I'm just not very computer savy. Do you or anyone have r1ch's email? I'm still open to solutions for this. I know it's something simple too. I've downloaded every single thing from the r1ch module website and put it in my quake2 folder. Why it won't recognize it when I connect to tastyspleen vanilla is beyond me.

Can you tell me exactly what error message you are getting?  I think you may be being kicked by a subnet ban.

Okay...this is exactly what is says:

This server requires the r1ch.et anticheat module. Please see http:antiche.at for more details.

Now as I've mentioned before...I've already downloaded and installed the module into my quake2 folder. And every single time I try logging on to Vanilla it gives me that same message.

Why it won't recognize it in my system is beyond me.

OK... this is probably a silly question, but just to make sure:

In addition to installing r1q2.exe, did you also place anticheat.dll in your Quake2 folder?

(And/or ... make sure you're not clicking on your original id software quake2.exe client.  It doesn't work with anticheat.dll)
