Controls Lagging

If i hold the move forward key for 3-4 seconds and let go, i keep moving in that direction and will coast to a stop in a few seconds. This happens about 50% of the time when i am playing.
I have tried to following:
Disable Sticky Keys, Turn off Sticky Keys Shortcut, Looked at the Sticky Keys Registry file, its set at "506" (disabled), Tried different keyboards, Reinstalled Windows XP (did a full reformat)... and i still have this issue... I am using a un Modified Quake2 with Mission Pack1 and Mission Pack 2
Windows XP Pro SP3
Pentium 3 @ 1.0Ghz
512MB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 4 440MX 64MB video card
I am using a Wired keyboard.
I am on the Tastyspleen IRC channel, user name is "KindOne"
I am open to ANY suggestions...
I have also attached my config file "C:\Quake2\baseq2\config.cfg" could the issue be in there?

Had this problem with wireless kb and mouse combo. If they are in line with the receiver one overrides the other and your last action stays constant until you press the button again to reset it.

I would start by trying a WIRED keyboard like Sigma mentioned. Wireless shit can often times be as useless as tits on a boar for gaming. However, I use a plain old wired Logitech LS-1 laser mouse with a wireless Logitech "Desktop Express" keyboard, and I've never really noticed any problems with the keyboard. Sounds more like a screwy windows setting. Or perhaps some really retarded alias in your config that is execing a ton of "wait" commands.

Dont know what q2 client you use but with the r1q2 client there is a solution.
in_dinputkeyboard
Enable DirectInput for keyboard control. Not usually required, although if you find buttons seem to continue to act as if they are pressed for a few seconds after you release them, you can enable this to try and fix it.
So if you switch to r1q2 this may help.

I had this problem on my old AMD system, I could never figure out what caused it but it applied to all games, not just Quake II. Hence why I added in_dinputkeyboard, as it seems to work around the problem (delayed WM_KEYUP messages).

I've had this happen to me - once because my keyboard was old and full of crap bits of food and spilled beer etc was causing the keys to physically stick down
I remember some old keyboards where the spring would go under the key causing that effect but it was obvious by looking at the key the spring had gone. These days they use like rubber bouncy things instead of old metal springs. Hehe.
If you ping is massive then the 'lag' could cause this kind of effect too.
Probably some crappy Windows setting. Is your mouse OK or does that do the same when looking around?

I had this problem too, though I would estimate it only "stuck" for a second max.
I just copied my q2 folder from a backup to a new folder. Apparently the backup didn't include some of the original files, so I did a reinstall from my q2 disc. (I think one of them was somethingx86.dll)

Well, i fixed the issue. I set the controls to the way I like them, and made ALL my "config.cfg" files in every Quake2 folder READ ONLY.... so now the issue is gone, since neither the Original Quake 3.20 or R1Q2 can modify the files, everything is working perfectly.
