New R1Q2 xp acceleration problems
«

I just reinstalled quake2 after a few months and got the latest version of r1q2. I'm using the same config with DirectInput mouse to eliminate xp accel which worked fine before, however this latest version seems not to turn it off. Anyone have this problem?

Here's another thread dedicated to this issue. Maybe something there will help. I don't know if its mouse acceleration, or my mouse, monitor, computer, or video card, but my game doesn't feel nearly as "precise" as I'd like. I've experimented with different config commands and mice but I haven't been able to solve the problem. Anyway here's a link to that other thread. There are also a few posts about it on the scene.net forums.

I'm not sure about R1Q2, but I've played around with various hacks in XP, and the only thing that seems to turn off mouse acceleration for everything is the main hack that changes the SmoothMouseXCurve and SmoothMouseYCurve values in the registry for the local user. The only requirement is that you log out of your account, and log back into it for the changes to take effect (or a reboot). Other hacks that I tried include the accelfix.exe, but the problem I seen with this hack is that it makes the speed for each horizontal direction (left and right) different. I wouldn't recommend even trying it unless you're looking to achieve that effect.
Here's the link for the registry hack if you're interested:

Uploaded on request. Both of old q2players.org fame, untouch and d1tzu should need no introduction.

Thanks, I'll keep that as a last resort Robot. However, R1Q2 -should- take care of this problem especially if I'm using DirectInput mouse.

It turns out that the problem wasn't the new R1Q2 but my new Logictec mouse driver. It has game detection and automatically kept acceleration overriding R1Q2's that was turning it off. Thanks again guys

Pyr3x, you really should sign up for the
North American Duel League
. The signups closes the 15th, and it starts the 20th with groupplay. Plenty of time to get back in shape!!

Grunt, basically don't apply any patches to the registry. R1Q2 has built in support to fix acceleration. Although you can use like m_xp or m_xpfix or whatever it is which technically gets rid of acceleration, the best way is to use R1Q2's DirectInput mouse. Enable it by m_directinput "1". If this does not fix acceleration (i.e. your crosshair should move the same distance your mouse moves regardless of the speed you move your mouse) then you have some third party software most likely mouse drivers with game detection that is overriding it. You can switch it off in the settings for the mouse driver software most likely, in my case it was a logitech mouse software.
