buying ram question
«
on:

Hi, can you please tell me if i can mix pc 3500 ram with pc 4000 ram.
i have GeIL CL25-4-4DDR 500 (pc 4000) as two modules each 512MB.
It is nearly impossible to get ram like that. It looks like everybody sells PC3500 only.
Can these two types be mixed?
Help me save money with your answer. Thanks a lot.

generally speaking, I believe you can (because they are both DDR), but the memory will run at the lowest compatible speed.
But don't take my word for it, work with crucial.com or another site that sells memory (crucial can definatley help you). You can do that, or consult your motherboard documentation, because each motherboard is different. For instance some you have to have all 256mb, or all 512mb memory, and so on.

work with crucial, or another memory company, ASUS recommends purchasing DDR400 from a qualified Vendor list.

Thanks for the manual, reaper. I think i will buy 2Gb as 1Gb modules from Kingston or similar. Or maybe i will buy 1Gb and save money. The DRAM i actually have and use is downward compatible. So one Gb could work fine. Thanks a lot.
