Q2 server quits if someone leaves the game
« on: June 16, 2004, 06:23:40 PM »
I setup 3 PCs on a HUB, all are win2000. No matter which PC I have host the Q2 game, if someone quits Q2 or if someone goes through the player model list too fast, the PC hosting quits. Also if I host a game on the MSN Gaming Zone and someone quits the game my Q2 quits. Antone ever hear of this problem?

If you are using 1 of the machines as a "listening" server I hear this will happen, but doesnt occur if 1 is running as a "dedicated" server. Our machines at home do the same thing unless 1 is running in dedicated mode.

Hi Fanny,

When I go into the Q2 menu I select "multiplayer" then "start network server. I guess that's a listening server. If so, how do I make it a dedicated server?

Assuming you have an icon to start quake on your desktop, go to the properties for that icon and in the "target" box type the following  C:\Games\Quake2\quake2.exe +set dedicated 1 +set map "mapname" +set logfile 3(the logfile part is optional)

Substitute the "c:\etc\etc with your path to the quake2.exe
Sustitute "mapname" with a starting map i.e. "q2dm1" etc.

Hope this helps

Quake II is not 27 years old. I refuse to accept THAT much time has gone by.
