Body lingering for lightning and thunder,
I clutched the midsummer's morning (a dream)
As suddenly as eighteen or twenty extended
Septembering years could go on twisting:
 ' ' ' all by all and day by day
Into the crystal ball of memory.
(That place
Where I committed brown eyes and peach torso,
Deep into the fluid depths
Of some or one-of-many neural synapses
(combined more than chromosomes,
Crystalline knowledge--and images of her:
It stirred and mixed an illinois river,
And it was all I could have done
 ' ' ' was all I could do
To commit it to memory and be composed
To perhaps vow to alter the dispute
Between this illinois river and I,
Between her and myself:
To bring the day to close:
To set the arguments inertia ashore
And recompose what is and should have been.

With my dreams, a red heart, and memories
She--Illinois woman, (back then)
Under the great gray midsummer
