Back on-topic now...
I don't usually listen to... uh... "mainstream punk"??? Dunno if that's how this band would be properly categorized. It's pretty mainstream in my opinion. Not exactly my idea of "punk" although they do have basic elements of punk rock, a light spritzing of it anyway, as well as a light spritzing of some rockabilly I suppose. Who the hell knows. Anyway. A sorta decent conservatively done cover of an old Johnny Cash hit, not totally thrashed and trashed up like I've heard other punk bands do to it, never really liked that approach to covering this particular song.

Not entirely a huge fan of Six Feet Under, but at one time Chris Barnes and company did release an album called Graveyard Classics 2, which was a start a finish cover album of the entire AC/DC Back In Black album. It's not "great". It's probably not even "good". But it's a "decent" cover album. I suppose it
could
be worse. Killswitch Engage did a cover of Dio's Holy Diver a few years back, and personally I think they basically trashed the song with their greatly emphasized harmonizing on the guitars. So while Chris Barnes does a pretty shitty and sloppy method of vocal delivery since leaving Cannibal Corpse to start Six Feet Under, at least the guitarist didn't try to do
too much
with the songs. Some songs are just masterpieces the way they are. If you're gonna cover them, don't flavor them with your own style too much or it ruins it. Honestly, a death metal vocalist already destroys anything AC/DC, but it's an interesting take on an album of pure classics at the least.

Many moons ago, a certain death metal band did a cover of a Black Sabbath classic. I think this one got stuck on some kinda death metal Black Sabbath tribute album back in the mid 90's, but I mainly remember it from their 1994 album, When The Sky Turns Black.

And this is some kinda bonus track on the 20th anniversary re-release of Death's 1991 album titled Human. I guess it was probably just something the band did screwing around, never actually intending to release it. I can't see Chuck Schuldiner, as much of an anal retentive perfectionist as he was, ever allowing this out as a studio track. It's got some slight tuning problems and some drums parts that need editing. But still, even for a trash track, it's pretty good. And it beats the living shit out of the original Kiss version, which I fucking hated.

I've heard this song covered a hundred different ways by a thousand different guitarists and groups, but this guy stands out a little bit to me. I forget what the device is called, but he's using these weird tremolo buttons located behind the bridge (maybe at the strap peg too) that bend only certain strings at a time. It sounds kinda like a drunk guy fumbling with a guitar at certain parts, but it's actually deliberate and intentional. The whole technique of it is really cool, kinda like how Jeff Beck uses tremolo a lot, only a bit different because its more than just one trem arm getting used.

A bad cover of Black Sabbath's Paranoid by "Cindy & Bert"?... a bad dutch version of Sonny and Cher? I dunno, never heard of them.

An interesting cover of Black Sabbath's Changes. Plenty of dorks are commenting on it saying how fucking wonderful it is. It's "interesting", but I don't think the guys voice is all that special. You hear other things by him on youtube and while he has a nice rough gravelly tone to his voice that sounds good for soul, he doesn't have much range or accuracy with the notes. This is why this song is a good choice for him. Ozzy didn't have a huge range either, most of his draw was the tone and texture of his voice, so they're kinda similar in that regard.

Uh... yeah. What can I say about this.

Damn. I thought my old cover of it was pretty bad. This one takes the cake.

It gets weirder.

Oh no no no, it gets even weirder than that.
