Myrmidon's Retirement and Pak and Config

I've been planning to quit Quake 2 for good over the last few months due to personal reasons. My original plan was to play the EDL and then quit at the end of November (which is my 19 year Quake 2 anniversary), but recently the headphones I've used to play Q2 on for about 15 years finally broke and I've been having trouble playing without them. When you play with something for that long it kind of becomes an important part of your whole performance, and I've been struggling to detect sounds with other headphones. Therefore, I've took it as a sign that it's finally time to take off my boots and end this Quake adventure (and yes, this is for real!).

I thought it would be a good idea to put my pak and config out into the world and let others see and experience how I played, so here https://www.sendspace.com/file/3kfcqc is a link to my config and pak. My pak and config are designed for use with R1Q2 and won't work properly in Q2Pro. Also, the download expires after thirty days.

Thank you for sharing your pak I downloaded a copy. That's generous and thoughtful and far from the first time you have given back to the community. I only know you from reputation but based on that alone I would like to risk shame for actin' a fool and publicly thank you for being a great player, for writing the definite deep dive into deathmatch strategy. The ability to become aware of your own approach to becoming a better player layered atop the guide to analyze your opponents mind set, and the best illumination of pro level decision making at The Edge- Q2DM1, legendary stuff. Just wanted to say thank you for your service in the war against the Strogg.

All that being said, in Railwarz community we had a legendary railgod face retirement because the ball mouse he had been playing with for a decade plus died and the mouse model had been discontinued. However, in the ensuing exit interview on the forum, it was discovered the obsolete ball mouse was purchaseable on Ebay.  The community sent the player the old ball mouse.  The railgod plays on, just last night crushing me 10-0 before I fully woke up and de-fogged the marijuana swamp that had settled in around my monitor.  What I'm trying to say here, awkward but sincere, is that I am down to contribute - please post the make and model of the headphones - I want to get you the headphones.

Thanks for the compliments and offer, Reefer. It's nice to hear from someone who actually appreciates what I tried to offer the Q2 scene.

Alas, quitting Q2 was always on the cards for me; the loss of my headphones just sped things up. The true reason ("personal reasons") I am quitting is because, as some people in the scene already know, I've been suffering from an anxiety disorder called Agoraphobia for the last three years, and Quake 2 has been somewhat detrimental to my recovery. I hate to say this, but during my latter years in Quake 2, it felt more like a sickness than a pleasure, and quitting was the only way I could purge this sickness. I took a lot of flak from a lot of people in the community over the years as well, so laying Q2 to rest feels like a burden has been lifted. It wasn't just my headphones, either. Earlier in the year my 120hz monitor broke, too; and I also had to switch to wireless internet last year. It's been one problem after another, and my headphones were really the final straw.

I turned 33 last week, and I really don't want to lose anymore of my life to Q2 or this Agoraphobia.

I hope you wake up one day completely free of this agoraphobia! Maybe a Quake 2 comeback just to celebrate if it feels right!

I believe exercise, and healthy balanced diet can kick so much ass when it comes to our body and minds health.

 With some commitment and patience we can transform ourselves! It's never too late to make healthy changes in our lives!

Sad to hear Quake2 is contributing to the agoraphobia, hope you will find other hobbies that have the opposite effect!
