No, people told me years ago you can avoid making splashes, even coming out of water (which is even more tricky). I gave up figuring out the latter one years ago. : ))))

The problem with the tunnel trick is that I haven't seen a reliable way to do it yet. It's seems random to me, unless it requires one to use a certain trick or timing.

If you strafe jump down into it and out..  just using one hop in the water as you go thru it down the tunnel you make no water sound.
Was good for rails-only if you spawned by water.

I might as well post a demo.

Has variations on yours in there too. (Admittedly by accident It is a bit random)

I'll have to watch the demo, but that's not the way that I know of. To me it sounds like you're describing how to exit the water without having the pop-up lag/animation occurring.

Seems like if you have enough speed and you strafe jump in the opposite direction immediately once you land from your previous jump, you won't make a splash. This is pretty cool since it seems far more reliable than what method that I was using.

Those are some fine jumps. Funny thing is Higgs showed me that double jump off of the sewage grate, awhile ago. I'll probably never use it since I can't use 90fps comfortably anymore (doesn't work well with my monitor).

For that fall, you need to land on the water where it slopes. If you fall on the flat part where the water is at, you will still take fall damage but it will be very little.
