Mouse problems - please help

I reinstalled Windows Vista last week, and ever since the new install, my mouse will not act right anymore.  I don't know what's up with it but it jitters, but only when I move it in one direction (generally left-upwards but sometimes left-downwards).  By jitters, I mean when moving it, it has a lot of issues and bounces right-ward when I move it leftward diagonally.  It never did this even when my system was locking up like a motherfucker before the reinstall.

Anyway, if anyone knows what's up, much help would be appreciated.  Maybe some settings for the mouse itself I need to look into?

BTW, it's a A4Tech X7-F4 V-Track 3000dpi USB Gaming Mouse, and I'm using the drivers that came with the CD (specialized software).  Thanks to anyone who can help!

I used to have several mouse issues.. whats odd is that they were all A4tech.  they jitter, pointer moves on their own, if playing q2 it spins all all sort of stuff.
Anyway, is your driver for vista? how bout using the default vista driver.

The only time I've had an issue like this was when a hair was messing up the laser.  Check the mouse itself, when it's on, so you can see if there's something in the laser area.

Regarding your view uncontrollably "spinning", I used to have this problem every now and then a few years ago. It's usually caused by using an optical/infrared mouse on a semi-reflective surface. The beam gets reflected back into the mouse and causes "feedback". If you're not using a mousepad, you might wanna try to do so, it will help.

Although I had another solution... I would just beat the mouse on the desk until it stopped. Eventually I beat the mouse on the desk so much that it broke the mouse. Problem solved... kind of. Eventually I got a laser mouse, one with a transparent beam that doesn't emit any light. Never had that problem again. Eventually, I tore that mouse up too. BUT.... I had used that mouse on a padless desktop so much that it actually wore through the glossy surface of the desk. So today, I'm using another infrared mouse (because I couldn't find another transparent laser mouse) and I haven't had that problem anymore.

Im using Vista and I had tons of problem with q2..
Its sluggish, laggy and whatever shit happens.

Anyways, ex as a techie u should have known better. re-installation sucks. Do a clean install.

I would use a clean install if I had a clean installation disc to install from.  Currently I reinstall from a partition.

As far as the base Vista mouse drivers??  I thought using the drivers made for the mouse itself is usually a better idea.

And yeah, I've already checked for hairs and whatnot.  Unfortunately, that's not the problem.

This may not be a Quake issue but since I have only seen it happen while playing Q2, I will ask the gurus here about it.  I have had this happen the last 3 or 4 times I played Q2.  I am playing and all of the sudden I can no longer turn side to side, sometimes I can't move at all.  If I exit out of Q2 my mouse will still not move the cursor in any direction, until I turn it off and back on, then it works fine.  I have tried to turn the mouse off and back on while in game, but it does not fix the problem.  I have not seen this happen except when I am playing Q2.  Any thought about what is happening?
