N64 Quake II multiplayer maps by Rota
« on: October 13, 2007, 04:00:25 PM »
2013-12-17 update: I've just discovered that a few years ago, but still a few years after making this thread, tastyspleen member "peewee_RotA" has recreated the N64 Quake II multiplayer maps.  However, he seems to have only posted them on a different forum, so I hope he doesn't take offense to me linking his downloads here.

While I'm at it, I wouldn't assume there'd be a way to play on these maps on tastyspleen multiplayer, correct?

Subject: Kind of surprised nobody's ripped the N64 multiplayer maps...
-------------------------------------------------------------

For example, I've seen rips of the multiplayer GoldenEye maps for other games, but I find it odd that nobody has ripped the N64 Quake II multiplayer maps for Quake II PC!

...unless someone HAS and I've been really blind about it.  I probably WOULD rip them if I knew how, or if I knew where to find out how to rip N64 levels...

Twists was a great map, it was similar to the edge except the best part was that it didn't suck.

The rest wouldn't really work well on hte PC version. Remember that Q2 64 deathmatch did not have water, ducking, or double jumps but it did have an invisibility. Also the BFG functioned quite differently (with a really cool lightning effect) and all the other weapons were slowed down to balance them. Lastly it was limited to 4 players.

It's actually one of my favorite deathmatches, my friends and I will meet for quake2 64 matches every so often, however most of the maps probably would not work well in pc version.

I'd love to see a version of twists and some of the single player maps (like the elevator ride to the core of planet Strogg) turned into a deathmatch. However you gotta understand that most of the single player maps were remakes of Rogue and Xatrix maps. The only map that even resembles the original q2 singleplayer was base3, however it had a different exit and the satallites do not move. (also the hub system was removed if anyone actually cares)

In fact I think I'll load that bad boy up right now.. ahhh nostalgia!

Well, it doesn't have to be the exact same.  The weapons and ammo and stuff could be placed in the same spot, but who cares if the map is over crowded?! :P

Well I'm totally necro-posting this again... but I did post them all here as well. I was supper spammy with those links everytime I released a map.

Definitely excited that you enjoy them  ;D

Well I wasn't able to find anything that contained all the links in a single post.  Also I made this thread quite literally years before you ever made your map ports/conversions, so I felt it was appropriate to update this thread accordingly since my original idea had since been fulfilled.

This is the thread that inspired me. So you definitely have a big hand in making those happen.  :afro:

The other site is likely q2cafe (It's the "maps" link at the top of this site)

It totally makes sense that they were hard to find. I uploaded them to the FTP in the giant thread for uploading new maps:

I do have to ask though, is there a reason that never did a port/rip of the 10th N64 map, Overflow?
