Switched from R1Q2 to Q2PRO, now models aren't as bright

Hey guys, figured I'd post here for any ideas before just give up and go back to good ole sluggish r1q2.  But I downloaded q2pro the other day, gave up trying to configure it, then tonight I tried a bit more with no success.  Basically, my pak is perfect for me and I don't want to switch the sounds/anything of my pak to something else, but when I was using r1q2 I could use the gl_modulate trick to make the models SUPER bright and I could see them np(as I like to keep a real dark background) and this is the result: https://www.dropbox.com/s/o7sbe0uwlta66yx/quake003.png .  With q2pro, I set gl modulate entities to 99, gl modulate world to 2 and gl modulate to 1, and this is the brightest I could get it: https://www.dropbox.com/s/9ye78h3zrsak9n5/quake005.jpg .  I've got pretty bad vision, so I have to have them that super bright so I can see them down darker hallways/further away/dark corners etc.  Anyone have any ideas?  Also the pak I'm using is: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dxqk63fxsj4lkx3/pak8.pak  in case anyone asks I guess.  I'm all out of ideas.

changed how. Did u install q2pro in same folder or in new one.

I'm guessing r1q2 showing model skins from folder quake2\baseq2\players
and q2pro from your pak

btw im using gl_modulate 20 with +4.5 glasses

he may be on to something. your models in the q2pro pic show their arms. in the other they're solid color brights

Changed, as in, I installed q2pro to my q2 directory and am now trying to configure it to use it over r1q2. 

And I have no idea what the hell I'm doing in q2pro since I've never used it.  But looks like my solution is: I have to make a pak and make new model colors and make that pak number a higher value than the pak I'm using to have the new models/skins colors trump my normal paks models/skins ONLY and not the rest of the pak.  But I really don't know how to do that so I was trying to avoid it so I didn't have to teach myself/research/waste time doing it(I wanna be lazy, wahh!).  I just thought maybe there was a setting I was missing(in q2pro) that I didn't edit that would fix this to where I didn't have to do anything at all, but I've kinda went through it all with no luck and even had erica send me her config to see if I was missing something.

You posted just before me and got the warning that a new message was posted.  But ok, I'll check into that and see if there's something I can switch around in my folders.  I just want my q2pro to look like my r1q2...is that too hard to ask!?

I recommend renaming all of your pak files other than pak0 and pak1 to have a .pa_ extension

one by one, rename them back to .pak and reload the game each time checking to see what changes.
write down which ones are essential and which are causing what change.

this will help you narrow it down quickly to see if its multiple paks with skins that are conflicting, or one pak with multiple types of skin that are loading differently (.png vs .tga or .jpg etc)

Also a good idea, thanks Dervy, I'll try that here in a bit as well.  I just copied/pasted all my players (male/female) files in my arena folder into the one in my baseq2 one and vice versa, and connected to the ra2 server to see no change.  So you might be right since I have a couple different paks in my arena folder that could be conflicting or something so thanks for the tip dervypoo
