open the command prompt  and do a ping -t to tastyspleen.net. observer the response time.

also check your public ip address if it is static or dynamic. You can access you modem/router via web based admin (most likely via http://www.routerlogin.net or http://www.routerlogin.com or 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.1).
if it is dynamic you can prolly disconnect and reconnect to acquire a different ip (prolly with better connection results)

@ pokemoo i have been doing regular tracert to tastyspleen, and depending on the routing i get i do reset my router.

its prolly a network related issue. Same as mine. I remember there was a time when TS initially changed ip address where i got a ping of around 180 from my usuall 220 plus.

Out of curiosity I ran path pings (mtr) from tastyspleen.net to the three different Australian Q2 server IPs listed on q2servers.com.

Each route was very different. All were good as far as not having packetloss; some were more consistent than others as far as fluctuating ping times.

The quickest and most stable was the route to macanahs servers ('60.242.253.213')

Alpha, what kind of ping (and packetloss/netgraph) do you get directly to macanahs servers? (60.242.253.213)

1. that router is shit

shoulda gone with one of the asus routers, they are fucking AWESOME for little soho routers

2. probably a modem related problem rather than router :) get your ISP to fix that shit if you don't know what to do... I had some crazy noise problems from the repeater outside my house just hammering my modem to death once, had to harass comcast continuously until they fixed the shit

3. you could also try just doing a continuous ping (the ping -t) to your router to see if it is local network related, could be a bad nic or wire easily

when i do ping -t to tastyspleen its constant 215-217 but when i join a server dm or railz its 230

instead of connecting to a server try opening a website and watch the ping.. prolly some latency issues.
