Salutations,

With the player count on vanilla these days being lower than it used to be, I've noticed the larger maps sometimes emptying the server in a way that I think wasn't an issue when the server was always packed with players.

Example from this afternoon.  q2rdm13 was mymap'd, but current mymap rules require a rotation map to appear between non-rotation maps:

Unfortunately the rotation map cleared the server, and I suspect q2rdm13 probably wouldn't have if it had been allowed that slot.

Ideally WallFly would have information about large maps vs. small maps, and would select rotation maps suitable to the number of players on the server.

I don't have time to code that now, so... easiest experiment I can think of is to try removing the required rotation map interleave for the time being.

Therefore: The rotation map interleave is disabled for now on vanilla.  We'll see how that goes...

I think that adding more maps to the map pool could help. The math comes out to something like only 2 maps from the list being available at any given time, and players have no idea which ones. This is because some maps are popularly mymapped and then put on some 1 billion minute cooldown before being allowed again. So several fraglimits before you joined, the map you was already played and you have to put in a half hour time investment just to mymap it again.

The majority of the vanilla crowd have totally given up on the feature and just play the maps in the list.



So all that being said. Tweaking the rotation to put in a fresher batch should heat things up. I.E. pull out biggun and boss2 (leaving mymappable) and put in match1 and q2dm4

Actually scratch that... let's do a Vanilla map drive!


It's notoriously hard to get new maps into vanilla, so how about the constraints of a vanilla worthy map are set up and we have at it, then run some special event to add them and test.

The constraints I would suggest, based on past conversations, are:

- use stock textures, env, and sounds
- at least 6 player maps
- Should have quad, bfg or both
- Should have mostly large rooms and corridors.

i just made a bigger map more suitable for mutant, which im tweaking, but id be glad to make a smaller dm map to spice things up.  :yessign:
