To expand on my point, we set aside time to do things. We set aside time to experience art. Would you enjoy trying to watch your favorite movie and conducting a business meeting at the same time? Does choosing to turn off the movie in order to conduct the meeting represent not being able to perceive beauty?

No, it represents having your freaking priorities straight. You set aside a time and place to work. A time and place to enjoy movies. A time and place to sleep. This is simple human thinking.

That is the problem.  "Simple human thinking" for the last 2600 years (before the last 140 anyway) was that art was a NECESSITY, above ALL OTHERS.  Without art, a society will FALL.

The Greeks knew the ultimate truth.  Music was tied directly to the "cosmos", a word which meant everything to them.  I mean literally everything, the entire universe was caught up in the idea of music.

Now, music is considered something to "set aside" time for.  How pathetic is that?

This "simple human thinking" you speak of has ONLY been thought up in the last 140 years, since the Industrial Revolution.

The priorities for most societies all throughout history was music.  ONLY NOW have we said "it's not that important."  So what is important now?  Money.  That's it.  Greed and fucking money, the thing that causes so much suffering and misery now, yet that's what we choose to focus on rather than art, something which helps HOLD BACK that misery.

Talk about priorities.  We need to get them straight once again, otherwise the human soul will continue down this dark path of being devalued to the point where we won't even bat an eye over suffering anymore.  We will completely lose who we are as people.  Hell, we're already nearly there.

Personally, I hope and pray for a natural calamity to wipe us all out.  We don't deserve to be here if this is how we're going to act.

Top 1% control more wealth than 99%

Don't you have a city park to squat in?  :nana:

Actually, sad to say Golgo is on the right track with this one.  It's actually closer to around 80% that .01% of the population controls.  They've been trying to get it to the point where it's almost 99% though.  This is no lie, no conspiracy, this is absolute FACT.  It has been well documented throughout history what the rich and powerful do.  They go around in the world scooping up all the raw gold, diamonds, and other precious metals, gems, and treasures they can.  Why?  Because when they have it in their possession, it makes their overall worth go up.

Remember, our economy is DESIGNED TO FALL.  Paper money will ALWAYS FALL and become WORTHLESS.  The treasures are NOT designed to fall, EVER.  Their inherent value only goes UP, continually.

Don't believe me?  Take a look at the price of gold in 1999 and the price of gold today.  Less than $300/ounce, to now over $1700/ounce, with an expected value jump to occur due to our flattening economy to over $10,000/ounce in less than 10 years.

This is real stuff, folks.  Take your blinders off, this is how the world really works.

Interesting rant. I disagree with all of it. (Especially the part where you think I said "art = inconvenience")

Disagree all you want, it's the ultimate truth.  I seriously hope you aren't disagreeing with the "last 2600 years" argument.  That is historical FACT, so you're going to end up looking truly STUPID if you disagree with THAT.

And let's not get caught up on semantics.  You know exactly what you meant by saying "people shouldn't be inconvenienced to listen."  That IS saying music is an inconvenience.  If it wasn't, people wouldn't feel inconvenienced by stopping and listening.  This goes into the whole greed-based Industrial Revolution society we are suffering from now.

Slice it however way you want, the final meaning is still the same.

Of course, I'm probably talking to a brick wall right now. :frustration:  You probably don't have the slightest interest in music or art yourself, nor do you have any talent to speak of.  OF COURSE you won't really care about it.  The world used to value music and art, and talent (something which takes a LIFETIME to develop).  Now it is nothing more than an inconvenience to the majority of people.

That's great you have such a love of music, but 99 percent of the population wanted to get to work on time, or had something to do.  Maybe the money eases their suffering, and is tied to quality of life.  Also this is same society that bought theater tickets to listen to the music.  Where he was playing, he's like the other 20 people doing crazy things for a dollar, while people are busy, and he's playing at the wrong time and the wrong place.

I do think you have touched on subjects that matter, such as working conditions and culture, but not in a way that made any sense.

TBH this society makes no fucking sense anymore.  I feel like I should've been born 200 years ago.  Probably would've been a lot happier, and far more appreciated, even if I was some King's little bitch.  Better than being an outcast for having talent above the droves that don't.
