Ramp Jumping

I'm trying to find what enables/causes ramp jumping in Q2 so I can imitate it in a Q3 mod... but I can't find jack shit! I can only assume that it's pmove.c:PM_StepSlideMove since that alters velocity while going up steps so it might work for ramp jumping too. Anyone know?

The 2 variables would obviously be the angle of the ramp and your speed, but what part of the actual code I am clueless to. However, if I had a random guess, it would have something to do with once those 2 variables are fulfilled, associating q2's physics in regard to building momentum in the air with the actual incline(enabling them when when you're technically touching ground, but dependent on those 2 variables).
But yeah, completely useless in your search I'm sure.

Take a look at PM_CatagorizePosition [sic], you'll find some velocity checking there. A comment by Zoid about ramp accel and an interesting debug output line commented out. Search for "Zoink!
It looks to me like ramping just reduces friction and gravity adds to velocity and the resultant velocity vector is greater as a result.
Uncomment that Zoink line and see how velocity changes over time on the level and on the ramp.

Yeah I'll give that a look, thanks. I can't find zoink anywhere in the code though. It looks like PM_CatagorizePosition is a similar function to Q3's PM_GroundTrace and a couple of others and that section you pointed out there isn't in the Q3 code.
Ramp jumping works on more than just ramps though. Stuff like double-jumping off of boxes in q2dm1 for instance is actually a combination of DJ and ramp jumping. At least that is how it works in QL. And ramp jumping off of ramps seems to reflect horizontal velocity into vertical velocity. Man I'm confused right now. I've looked at Warsaw code but those pieces of code are practically the same as in Q2, and the Q4 code is obviously in C++ and thus confuses me even more. I'm going to give that theory of yours a thought QwazyWabbit. Thanks.
