iv asked before, but i saw little response from the admins of the tastyspleen servers, as a server and forum regular. i feel that it is my dutie to provide feedback on the servers and the way they are run. and i feel that we need some change around here. and i look for my fellow players feedback on this aswell

1. the mutant server maplist needs to be rotated with newer maps atleast once a month, there are a hundered maps running at the same time and its been like that for ages. i would gladly volunteer and see that this is changed with new maps each month

2. the version of r1q2 running on the servers is grossly out of date, there have been major updates to it since then that could realy benefit the servers

i agree.  maybe even more than once a month.  i would have a totally new playlist.
for the people that learn to love certain maps, they should know by then the name
(or write it down) so they can mymap it.

the automatically played maps/maplist should change regularly.
to me that should be the point of mutant.  getting rid of
the repetitious nature of playing the same builtin maps all the time.
when you play the same custom maps all the time, it starts to
seem like the same grind.
if you forget to mymap the next map you want, then you have to
wait 10 minutes for something new/fresh.

if mymap allowed you to feed it a playlist, maybe i wouldnt care, but
i always forget at some point to give it a new map at the beginning of the next round.

The original charter for mutant, was supposed to be that it would tailor the maplist by remembering which maps a player says are their favorite. . . . . . That idea never got coded, dunno how it would have worked out.  Rotating the maplist simple to implement, though - great!  (The current mutant rotation sprang out of a forum request for more maps on mutant.)

We might be able to set up something more automated, but for starting from square one, feel free to post map lists here in this thread (or wherever)... Do you have a maplist in mind already?

Hmm...

"version" is "R1Q2 b6359 i386 Dec 24 2005 Linux"

That was installed on all servers on Dec 26th.  (More precisely, all the servers on tastyspleen.net which all run from the same q2 binary.) 

Are there some still running the old version? It would mean they need a reboot (and haven't crashed since last year... )

sorry i didnt see that you guys upgraded recently. well when i had asked about this before, the servers had a really out dated version from like 2 years ago  the only servers i say that still had it the old one was xquake, DM, goatass, q2dm1mods, CTF, WOD, gumbys graveyard (WHY DIDNT ANYONE TELL ME WE HAD A GG SERVER? )

thing is  i really dont know alot of maps. so maybe if alot of people gave atleast 1 or 2 of there favorites, we could put a list together
i personaly like marics100 and zack_02. i know the server doesnt have those tho

good ideas xtife, but to take it further, i believe we need to refresh tastyspleen with new maps on all the widely used servers, such as vanilla, and railz.  There are alot of great maps out there that are not being used by anyone, just sitting and rotting (figuratively).  It would also be nice for a code to be added to distinguish between map sizes and the amount of minimal players necessary to play those maps.  2 players don't want to play on a huge map that much, and since spawn is set to 'farthest' it makes it even harder to reach you opponent.  So basicly, Im requesting that there should be some kind of smart map system that loads only the maps suitable for the amount of players currently on.

there realy isnt alot of maps that could be added to vanilla, as the point of that is vanilla only maps
altho id like to see match1,city64, sewer64 and base64 on vanilla since those are vanilla maps
those big maps would be great since alot of people play on vanilla

railz could use a maplist change too i guess
