My Wife Aint Right

The last time "She" was mowing, the tractor started sputtering and even shutdown a couple of times.  So I start off with the easy things, I replaced the spark plug and fuel filter, since neither one had been replaced in quite awhile.  I crank it up and it is running great, so as I am coming in from my workshop I tell my wife that its fixed.  She said she wanted to see, so we go back out there and crank it up.  Now here it is almost 9 o'clock and she is out mowing in the dark 

Personally, I hate yardwork but she loves that stuff.  It was 97 degrees here today with a heat index well into the 100's, if I would have had the mower fixed earlier see would have been out there then.   

I guess it is good that she likes it, if she didn't it would be me out in the heat.

Did you test it to see if it sparked before replacing the spark plug? Always check before replacing it, although replacing those two are somewhat good guesses. If there's a spark just put a lil squirt of ether behind the plug and she'll start right up ;>

I'm willing to take the weird stares for suggesting this... Are you sure she doesn't just enjoy riding mowers in general? I'm guessing it's like the cobblestones

I got one of those self propelled Honda mulching mowers. I bag the clippings for the bermuda sod in the front and a little bit in a back where the sprinkler system continues on around. I try not to run the sprinklers if I don't have to, but the HOA covenants are pretty strict about yard appearance, so if it stays rainless too long, I gotta cut em on every couple of days. I've tried not bagging the clippings on the sod, but like I mentioned, sometimes we don't get enough rain and the clippings choke oxygen out of the ground and starts making brown spots everywhere. The back acre where it's nothing but weeds and a hodge-podge of whatever grasses happen to grow, I just mow with the bag shute closed off and mulch it in, fuck it. Takes about 5 hours to mow my entire yard if it's not 100 degrees and I'm not taking breaks all the time. I got an old Snapper riding mower, but I'm too cheap to fix it. I'm afraid that once I do fix it, it probably won't cut the front as good as my push mower, and the damn thing will probably tip over with me on it if I tried cutting the field out back with all the ditches and shit running through it. I can't really do anything about the ditches either, if something happens like what happened a year or two ago and the pond next door overflows from massive amounts of consistent rain, it's good to have those ditches there to allow the water to flow quickly around that side of the dam and into the creek rather than letting it flow all over the place and possibly wash the dam away. That would be a HUGE fucking mess.

I usually don't have problems with spark plugs though. It's usually the air filter that makes mine act up. I go through about 4 filters a season. For the pastures I'm renting on the other side of the creek, I borrow the tractor and the bushhog attachment from the old man that owns all that farmland. It's not much to cut with all the shitloads corn and stuff I've got planted out there, so it don't take too long. As long as I pay for the gas, he doesn't mind me using it.
