if you don't like a couple extra configuration files and a few more mainly essential packages why don't you install ubuntu server.

Lack of Linux people out here Although, I use Linux for just about everything else other than games But Quake II is a bitch on linux for me psh... ubuntu is bloated garbage... granted it is crazy easy if you cant get something working on ubuntu, you dont want to even try more advanced distros...

i wanted something really minimalistic and snappy instant fast crunchbang is built off of debian the same as ubuntu but the way its built is meant to be as small as possible...
i got most of my games running just fine in ubuntu back when i used it... was playing cpma pickups from ubuntu too, and i played through the entire doom3 game in ubuntu
HOWEVER for some reason doom3 didnt compile right so it crashes on start up... and quake2 wont even compile... and so i havent even wanted to touch any other game :/
eh i tried his on crunchbang and AGAIN it ends up with some stupid error that im stumped on how to fix :/ bout ready to say fuck it and run an ubuntu server edition with openbox thrown on it...
