Easy to test.. just type   map ikdm4  , if you enter the map then you have a local copy.   

Your local copy is either in a map pack or if you are playing a custom game then it could be in that game's maps or pak files (e.g. -game tourney or railarena).

Probably not for osx.. but TS has the http://www.tastyspleen.net/quake/downloads/ which is a pretty large set of maps.  If you remove the pak you may not lose much if any other maps.

and no list of what's in em - I'll just have to transfer to my wondows box and then back again...

The next time the map comes up, i would open your webrowser to www.tastyspleen.net .  Goto Server Status.  It will list all the servers and the maps they are playing.  Normally you can click on the map and recieve that map only for a very quick download.  It *should* overwrite anything else you have of that name.

However if it is wrapped up in a pak file, i'm not real sure what it will do.  i would google "PakExplorer".  It is a very simple and easy to use program for modify paks.

I have PE on my wondows box, but am using a mac... I did find "Pakit" - a mac based pak creator - pretty nice, just drop and drag onto the icon...

I'll get it sussed out. thanks guys

your talking about TS servers right? why not download the big zips of maps/textures and such from the download section
that should have the correct version in it that the server runs

imo there a bit outdated though :( missing a few maps
