I do see your point though, the tourney with prizes did bring out competition, but also, you're on one side of the spectrum. Take someone like [BTF]Ad^m, he sees people like you playing, and becomes discouraged, sure he'd love to win the prize, but knows he can't cause your skill level is much greater than his, therefore he doesn't sign up. I'm also aware we have different brackets. Well in the 3rd tourney, only the pro bracket got a shot at the $100, which left many people kinda left out. Again, being a player that also travels to tournaments with monitary prizes, i see where you're coming from, however this commuinity is mostly composed of average/below average players, but they play with their hearts and have a great time doing it.

gotta agree with dahang here... the point of a monetary prize isn't just so whoever wins has something solid that they won. having a prize, no matter how big, just encourages competition and a little more seriousness. it sucks when tournaments fizzle because people have no real motivation to take it seriously. forfeits become the norm, a limited amount of skilled players sign up, and final matches become more or less one-sided and therefore boring. hell, even if i'm playing for 10 bucks, it would still make me take the whole thing more seriously, not because i REALLY WANT THE MONEY, but just because there is SOMETHING on the line that makes it more fun. the point was also made of less skilled players being discouraged by an influx of high-skill players going after the booty. first off, not to rain on anyone's parade, but people won't exactly be beating down your door to sign up for a tourney because they heard it has a total payout of $100. second, isn't bringing more good players into the mix a good thing? it encourages people to step up their game a little, to not accept their current level and to challenge themselves to improve. this is what makes gaming fun, watching yourself go from a newbie to an experienced player, meeting challenges and improving yourself to overcome them.
