Port forwarding problem
« on: May 19, 2010, 07:19:27 PM »
Got myself a new router lately (25% better ping now ) and tried to forward Quake2's port, but somehow it's not happening.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I use the same settings as my old router. Nobody is able to connect to my server and IRC can't find it.

Anyone knows? The person that knows the solution will get 1.000.000 e-cookies.

:peace:

isnt 192.168.0.1 the local private IP for your modem router?

you should forward it to the local IP addy where your q2 server is running

yeap it may also 192.168.1.1 but still its x.x.x.1

its very rare that modem routers have the x.x.x.2 to 254 range.

Your address and router configuration appear to be correct. Unfortunately, a lot depends on the NAT configuration of your router. Without going into details (because I am not sure I understand it all myself) some routers won't keep the external and internal port numbers the same when you ask them to. Your 27910 port on your server ends up being on another port on the external side of the router. The only way I have found to detect that port number is to list your server on a public master and see what port number shows up on that external master server. Older routers did 1:1 NAT and you could expect the UDP port to not get shuffled around but it seems like the more recent routers like to play games with the game ports. :/

Basically, if your router is doing port shifting, you never know where it's going to come out and if you query it on 27910, you're knocking on the wrong door. There might be some settings you can tweak on the NAT configuration, look for words like Full Cone NAT or Symmetric NAT

Hah, got it...solution was very simple. I had to put 192.168.0.18 instead of 192.168.0.1. Thanks for the help.
