Hey Guys,

I'm having so much trouble connecting and trying to play Q2....  All I can do now is watch demos and reminisce. (  Is there nothing I can do?  Any utilities I can use to pinpoint the problem?  I used to be able to come on and play at least, even though my ping was horrible.  I even reffed a game!  Now I come on for a second and then I get PJ'ed and OLDFRAME and OLDPARSE and I freeze up.  R1q2 seemed to cut down the lag, but even it is succumbing to my horrible connection.  Any suggestions?  I miss y'all

Hmm that only happens to me when there are to many entites on the screen, like when there are tons of people on the server and spamming is everywhere...weird.Have you tried another server to see if it happens there?

try the new version fo egl
its pretty close to being as fast as r1q2 now

Well, interestingly enough, after posting this topic last night I was able to get on and actually play a little bit!  Frustrating, but fun at least!  I think the problem is like you said Mat, too many entities - I haven't been trying too many other servers (just Mage Warehouse) cause I love tastyspleen so much.  Wish I could play on a good connection once and awhile....

Hmmm... here at work there is a better connection, but the network is all apple computers... could I still hook up my PC here?  That would be... the bomb! 

Xtife, what's egl?  I'd like to check it out to see if my config format is more compatible.

Anyways.... really do miss playing with you all, despite all the quarreling and shittalking and all the other stuff that goes on on tastyspleen it's really full of great people and I miss ya    Hope all is going well!

egl is like quake2max or quake2evolved
where it adds some cool weapon effects and some better lighting effects
egl however, has kept compatibilty with vanilla quake2 stuff
and it sports alot of r1q2 features, such as protocal 35 and framerate decoupling
it also has hud scaling, which is my favorite feature 

and now with a recent release, it is almost as fast as r1q2

Macs these days are based on j00nix.  They'll support tcp/ip for their networking.  You should be able to plug right in, provided you can get an IP.  (If they're not using DHCP, you may have to contact the network administrator to get an IP.)

Quake should work fine, unless they have a super-paranoid firewall.

Also, if they make you use a mac, you can run Quake2 on that, too...

Hmm... mac quake problems?  I was basing my claim on that FromHellXena dude - who has something like 12 OS X systems in his office, and plays Q2 on them...
