Higher Than Usual Ping

Welp, I have the problem and waited a couple weeks to see if it would come back. (Construction around), so I called windstream, we did a speed test like I always do, 12990 down and 678kbps up. They said connection looked swell. I used to ping around 17 to 28, but today has been the worse ever, 56 ping. Any help I need it.

I'm on windstream too. Normally at 32, recently I've been up at 58 or 78. Kinda retarded when there should be a pretty direct route from Atlanta to Dallas. I was thinking it was the router, but I'm not the "wireless" PC and I get the same ping without the router in use at all. I'd provide a traceroute as well, but as I've mentioned before, it times out every single hop. Any suggestions as to who at Windstream I need to hold at gunpoint and scream my list of demands at them?

ill go ahead and join the bad routing club... from salt lake to seattle to portland to sacrimento to los angeles to dalas, a bit around texas, back to dalas for tastyspleen.net builds up 90ms when at new years i was gettin 60

The Internet Protocol allows for path redundancy, you are never guaranteed a route will persist for long or even that two successive packets will take the same path. Trunk routers get overloaded, they re-route packets for their own reasons, they go down and another path has to be discovered or take the load for a while. Expect anything in this weather too. Snowstorms, power outages, wet cables can all make for bad network connections. Deal with it.

Yeah I actually get a little better with the router in line, hopefully windstream will fix it,, it seems to be on their end.
