I'm growing increasingly annoyed by not only these types of bands, but also the morons who believe that it's excessively talented music. It's not. It's very simple. The drummer might be talented somewhat, but he far outshines the guitarists. My theory of how this music came to be.

"Hmm... I can't look cool headbanging with my emo haircut whilst worrying about fretting different chords. No doubt I'll flub a chord. And god knows I can't use dropped D tuning, then people might think I really suck. I mean... yeah, I suck... but as long as I chug out one palm muted chord in some totally non-rhythmic pattern along with the drums, then I'll be completely awesome. I'm so awesome. It's so awesome being me. Awesome. One chord. That's easy enough. And I'll look cool too. Awesome."

The emo-nu-metal-hardcore youth of america need to have the shit kicked out of them by old school death metal fans who's music they stole and sodomized until it became what was displayed in that youtube clip. A: They deserve it. B: it might help convince them to quit being such total pussies. I've been to several of these shows. It's like going to another planet. These fucktards stand in the middle of the pit swinging their arms around and kicking like total dumbasses. They've turned the classic death metal shoulder check into something reminiscent of fucking Dancing with the Stars. stereotypical ethnic ghetto-style individual please. Back in the mid and late 90's at a typical Obituary concert, you'd get lynched for that shit. These fuckers are totally content to stand there flailing like retards while everyone else watches. In fact, if someone else approaches them,... they stop. It's fun as hell to run up behind them and shove them on their faces. When they get up and turn to you, it almost looks like they're gonna fucking cry.

You gotta take it for what it is, it's music I like--fun to listen to and enhances my good time...in fact, the main problem with browsing music on youtube these days are dickheads who come to videos of bands they hate to begin with...and bitch about it...why the fuck would anyone subject themselves to music they don't like just for the pure monotonous act of trying to convince those who do like it that it sucks? 

I personally think the band is good, not the greatest, but I like the music....dunno what mosh pits are like around where you live but if you checked the people I hang around with in the back the last thing I bet they'd do is fucking cry--most likely what they'd do (or any normal person with a pair) is dump a bucket full of your own medicine on you.

I agree about the people who just stand there and flail their arms though, people like that usually leave the pit unconscious.

I do take it for what it is. At first, it wasn't so bad. But then all these other bands became god damn carbon copies and now it all sounds the fucking same. For a while, the underground death metal scene got that way in the last part of the late 90's too. Now that brand of music is all but extinct, left behind for lightning fast double bass drum bands similar to Morbid Angel, Hate Eternal, and Krisiun. The few remaining old school bands are nothing like they used to be. Cannibal Corpse actually finally found a decent groove. Obituary has pretty much run out of shit to write music wise. Six Feet Under sucks, and always did in my opinion, but it's still fun to hang out at the shows. One of the only shows where you KNOW you'll be able to get a ticket and also not have to worry about hiding your weed.

I mean this song isn't too bad in comparison to a lot of the other shit out there, but you have to understand where focalor's distaste is coming from, which I share to an extent. An example would be if I looked this song up and played it in front of my friends. They would be like DAMNNNN you are so fucking sick on guitar! OMG best metal guitarist ever!!! opposed to them turning on the x-box360 out of boredom while i'm playing master of puppets by metallica. So it's not that this band sucks(although i'm not a fan), it's the mentality sooo many people have. I actually wouldn't mind learning a few parts of this song.

I've also kind of changed into a picky metal head, though. Actually, let me correct myself.. i'm not even a metal head really. I love to listen to, and just the same I try to play this same stuff, any kind of music that makes me say 'DAMN.... this guy is good'. The amount of fun involved in playing it means a lot to me, as does song-writing and difficulty. this is the last song I learned... I pretty much never look up tabs, but I love this song.

Eddie Van Halen is a beast.

Vocals mean a lot to me also, as do the other instruments.

Focalor- yesterday I tabbed the harry potter theme by ear and with some blues solo riffs and chords came to mind that went along with it..... it's a masterpiece.

No. What I'm talking about is they only play one fucking palm muted chord (or maybe just eh bottom string only) in rhythm with the drums. After a section of that, bands like this will inevitably always diverge into the next section where they do dual rhythm guitars in harmony. After that comes the *gasp* "awesome breakdown". While some of these bands are indeed skilled enough to know how to play these songs correctly,... to me, they're simply selling themselves short by following the same god damn song layout that every other one of these hardcore bands always follows. That's why bands like Lamb of God are HUGE, and these guy are opening acts. Lamb of God recognizes the value of contrast and lays out different songs with different structures. All I'm saying is that this shit is so fucking boring to me now, I've heard it a million times from 100 different bands that all look exactly the same. It reminds me a lot of the black metal scene. They all look the same. They all have wristbands with 3 foot long spikes and have stupid names and unreadable logos and wear that gay "corpse paint". They all produce their albums to sound like over-reverbed SHIT that just makes you want to puncture your ear drums with a pencil.

As for Van Halen, I always loved Halen with David Lee Roth. He was a total wildman and had a great voice that complemented EVH's crazy playing style perfectly. I still love their first album. The only thing I hate about it (and their next one or two albums) was EVH's dumbassed idea to pan the main guitar far left and the guitar reverb far right. I guess on a late 70's stereo system with those huge ugly speakers set on both sides of the room, it probably didn't sound too horrible to him at the time, but these days it kinda annoys me. Jimi Hendrix did the same type of thing on a few of his old original releases (which were probably later re-released and remixed to make it stereo and fuller). I remember I used to have an old 70's Panasonic turntable with those huge speakers. One time I unplugged one of the speakers and set the working one right beside my bed while I was playing the "Are You Experienced" album. A few of the songs had the guitar panned out of that channel, but it wasn't the same on the CD I had.

I think 4 Non Blondes covered that VH song for the Airheads soundtrack way back when. I only bought that CD because of the one White Zombie song on it, "Feed The Gods", one of the best and heaviest songs White Zombie ever did in my opinion.

Well personally I near fully agree with you foc, but I was just trying not to come off as an ass lol. Yeah all of those kids are stupid, but I think it's just as wrong to have the attitude 'my music is better than yours' EVEN if it obviously is. Any effort put into that cause has always been wasted, at least for me anyway.

And personally I don't think lamb of god is amazing or anything. Wrath is one of the first times I gave one of their cds a 2nd listen tbh, and I like it a lot. Other than that I can't say too many good things about them. I mean the structural components to their songs are about half as generic to their genre than the hardcore bands you're discussing. I actually have similar opinions about lamb of god, as in 'why are these guys so big....'

Soooo your beef is with the simplicity of playing it? 

It sounds good, that's all I really care about--why would myself, just someone who listens to music rather than plays it as well, write off a good sounding song just because I could probably replicate it?    Just because you hit alot of chords doesn't mean you made a good song.

It doesn't sound good to me. It's not that it's easy to play. It's not that I can or can't replicate it. It's just boring. It's nothing more than percussive chugging on a guitar. Might as well just not play the guitar at all and let the drums do it all.
