Happy Halloween!

Just fer fun, hastily put together a Halloween Haunted House Dungeon track yesterday evening to hopefully creep out the Trick-or-Treaters tonight (made using ACID pro 7 and samples from the Sony Pictures Sound Effects Series library)

Worked out nicely, hooked up the laptop to a full-range Roland keyboard amp pointed out the window by the front door, next to a 1250 watt subwoofer.

Wasn't obnoxiously loud out in front of the house but the rumble was palpable, and folks seemed to enjoy the creepy ambience.

On an unrelated note, my wife started trolling kids who made return visits to get second / third helpings of treats. She found some old still-wrapped hotel mini-soap bars and mini shampoo bottles in the linen closet. One older girl received a (boxed, unused) shower cap on her 2nd visit. She returned a 3rd time and said, "hey! you gave me a shower cap last time!" So my wife replies something like, oh okay I have something for you... and places a mini bottle of conditioner in her treat bag.

Anyway, was fun.

(As to why we had a decade-old collection of hotel soaps and shampoos in the linen closet.... no clue. )

For any interested, this is how the project looked, in terms of the layering of all the samples:

Most of the samples are used completely unprocessed except for dialing in a bit of appropriate reverb (and some amplitude ramps, for, say approaching or receding footsteps.)

However the various vocalizations (groans, screams, etc.) are heavily tweaked in pitch and tempo from what were originally innocuous more ordinary sounds.

Also, didn't work on stereo imaging much at all, as I knew I'd be blasting this thru a mono amp.

I went full on with the props this year, with visuals as well... check these out they are a great addition, i dl'ed the torrent for the ghostly apparitions, they are legit!

I'm declaring this the official yearly Halloween thread.

I remembered that Quadz had put together a haunted house audio clip using Acid Pro. I'm gonna download it and play it through a pocket mp3 player into a boombox on the front porch by the jackolantern I carved. Haven't done one of these in a LOOOOOOOONG time. Turned out okay I guess.

Wanted to do something much more interesting and intricate (Minions, Nosferatu, skull etc), but I didn't have proper knives and tools, I just used a serated everyday steak knife. Been well over 15 years since the last time I did a pumpkin for Halloween. I traced out a template with a pencil directly on the monitor from an image I found on the web, tried to pick the easiest one without a bunch of tight curves to the cuts that would still look okay. I think next year I'm gonna try to get several to do up with faces and stick them between the bushes, probably get some colored LED lights to go in them so I don't have to worry about candles. People loved the haunted house sounds, but there were no decorations other than the pumpkin. Wanted to get a bunch of crazy stuff at Target the other week to decorate the yard with for Halloween, but I started doing the math in my head and it was gonna cost A LOT. Wanted to go a little extra crazy doing up the yard differently for Christmas this year, so I should have a little more money for that now.

Ingles had pumpkins 2 for $10, so I did 2 pumpkins this year. Note, these are not the finished product. Since I took the pics, I noticed places that needed further cutting and carving. Will probably continue cutting more shit off inside the holes every time I walk through the kitchen and notice something, up until tomorrow night when I set em out on the front porch.

Had two trick-or-treaters come up a while ago. One was dressed as the Kool-Aid Man, the other was dressed as the State Farm guy. Kool-Aid Man said, "Don't worry, I won't break through your walls, I don't do that anymore." State Farm guy says, "But if he does, I have you covered."
