A Q about City One

OK, I have never seen a real answer to this but I'll fire away anyhow...

Where the top GL resides, and at the end, if you jump, you get shoved down at 500mph, lol is there a way of taking that out of there cos I really find that an annoyance to the end, lol  ::)

That exists in single player as well. Here's my speculation on why it exists:

When you enter the outside area, several hovers from all over the map get pushed downward quickly so that they aim at you faster. (otherwise they would wonder around before firing). The trigger_push was added to push the hovers. The mapper (Paul Jaquays I think) remembered that trigger_push doesn't affect monsters so he adds a monster jump to accomplish the same thing. The ledge is completely inaccessible in single player, so he left the trigger push in as an oversight.


EDIT:

Update. I double checked and the push that exists in single player is slower (and encompases a larger area) than the one left in deathmatch. I have no clue.  :?:

Even if it isn't intentional, it still servers to keep from leaping down to the rl and the cave, so that brings up more questions, really.

"I did make the maps you mention, but don't remember the specific situation you describe. If you could be more specific on the location, I may be able to hunt it down in my Xbox 360 version of Q2.

Chances are, if it survived to the final ship stage of the map, I put it there intentionally, possibly as a quick fix for a discovered problem."

I'm always jumping from the railgun ledge to the rocket launcher. It's pretty easy actually. Supposedly its impossible from the grenade launcher, but one guy told me a few years back, the trick is to lazily fall off that ledge and then strafe and you can also get to the RL without cratering. My fav jump to the RL is from the ledge directly across from it, which is more or less at the same height.

Just jump from the teleporter destination (toward the railgun side).  If you stand on that teleporter pad, not dead center but toward the railgun side of the pad, you can jump to the rl without getting pushed down.


My fav jump to the RL is from the ledge directly across from it, which is more or less at the same height.

Yeah... it turns out to be possible to jump to the RL from just about any ledge or ramp in the arena area... :D

Yes it can be disabled if the server uses an override file that changes the spawnflags to singleplayer only.

This is the trigger:
{
"model" "*40"
"speed" "150"
"angle" "-2"
"classname" "trigger_push"
}


If you change it to this, the game will ignore the trigger in DM mode:
{
"classname" "trigger_push"
"model" "*40"
"speed" "150"
"angle" "-2"
"spawnflags" "2048"
}


If you download the override file that I made and place it in the maps folder then you can see for yourself what it's like without that trigger_push, although you can only test this with r1q2.
It makes it possible to jump straight from the GL to the RL-cave so I don't know whether that's a good thing or not.

I think my fav jump on city1 is from the gl ledge to the rg ledge. That's a new jump (I think pantaloons showed me), I never knew existed. Pretty handy tho, when someone is camping @ the rail.

I know, pesky campers always seem to pick that spot there. well, there's always someone at the cave or RL, firing up there to whoever teleports into that area. City1 is a pretty neat level. I remember a few years ago, everyone camped, you could hear a pin drop.
