Multiplayer Adresses wont register

I installed quake 2 on my buddys computer, and we typed the tastyspleen DM adress and the Vanilla adress and hit the refresh list, but the adress never comes up. We have the number right I cant see what the problem is cause I have the something at my house. What could be the problem?

I'm not sure I understand, but, from the Q2 console, you can just type:

connect tastyspleen.net:27912             <-- vanilla
connect tastyspleen.net:27916             <-- dm

sorry about that let me rephrase, I type in the IP adress and hit refresh and the server does not come up. Also in single player mode I notice there is that little icon with the dialup modem un-plugged. However, this computer has DSL so I just don't know what the problem is. I tryed what you said and nothing happen, I try making my own game and then going to dm or vanilla and nothing happen. Not really sure whats wrong.

Are you talking about the "join network server" screen under multiplayer?

I tryed 74.54.186.226:27916 then hit refresh and the server doesn't come up.

I just tried adding an ip address in q2 (r1q2) and it doesn't look like it saves the ip in the list.

You can manually add it to your .cfg the following: "set adr* "74.54.186.226:27916". replacing * with a number 0-9

Edit: It looks like you have to hit "esc" after typing the address in the server list for it to save.

yea the number has been saved in the adress book but when you hit refresh the server new comes up so I cant get to any of online servers.

Perhaps your firewall is blocking Q2 from pinging those addresses.

Or your routing is so horrible that the pinging is timing out. I don't know what the hell the problem is, but my routing seems to change several times in the middle of games. One minute my ping is 32, then it lags a bit and runs smooth again and my ping jumps to 55. Then other times it seems to be bouncing all over the place between 34 and 70 and I can't land any rail shots because I never know how to time the shot correctly. I can't even do a traceroute to figure out where I'm being routed. Every last hop times out and reports back absolutely nothing... even when my ping seems to be perfect.
