Hi all,
I've got a new Quake 2 duel map to test out. Its a little bigger than my previous work, but still keeps that fast game play in tact.
I'd be very grateful to get feedback on item placement & gameplay etc.
The spawn pads have been temporarily raised, but will be sunk into the ground in the final version.

checked it out.....really really good map...cant really comment much on the item placement and spawns, as far as design goes its really pimp...good job

good looking map.. not sure it needs an rg tho, because it definitely seems like a map thats based on alot of rl spam.
i could imagine that someone in control would focus on getting the chain and rl on the lower floor that are all close together.. and they're all fairly away from mega, so it'd be a fair risk if you dont time mega correctly, because going for those weapons would give the opponent a good opportunity to get mega. also like the ledge on the stairs by mega so that people can jump to mega instead of rj'ing or going to the hallway by gl. the other side of the map seems good because the person who's not in control has a shot at mega, hyper, and ssg, and all of those weapons are really good in a close-quartered map like this one.
haven't checked the spawns yet. seems like it would be ok to duel on.

Claire put the map on his NJ, Chicago and Estonian servers, if anyone plays to play it in an actual match.
I was playing this map the other day on that Estonian server, but in 2v2. I wish though I had learned the layout for the map prior, because I was quite confused even though the layout is quite simple. I thought the map was pretty fun and here are some things I noticed from those matches and in general:
1. Railgun room was the most contested area on the map. Second was mega health room.
2. Everyone seemed to favor railgun over any other item or weapon on the map.
3. People were more in a hurry to get a decent weapon (CG/RL/RG) than armors.
4. The two best spots on the map that I remember players using were the ledge from cells that overlooks chaingun, and at the top of the stairs near SSG that leads to mega health. At those spots you can see where the enemy is going and you can do a lot of damage with railgun since a lot of those exits lead to weapons or armors.
5. There are two trick jumps you can use to get railgun. The easiest way is to side strafe jump off of the the 4th step from the top of the flight of stairs. The only problem with this jump is trying to align yourself on the fourth step, which can be annoying at times especially if you're trying to do that while being on the top of the flight of stairs. The second way is way more difficult, which requires for you to strafe jump and then dj off of that platform that is adjacent to the stairs in railgun room. I'm sure you need to land on that fourth step to get the dj, and I never found a way yet to be able to do it consistently. You can dj off of that platform and get to rail directly but it's tricky. A lot of times I ended up hitting that wall that is parallel to the stairs. You're better off just trying to land on that random, elevated platform. P.S. I was 120 fps, so maybe these jumps are different with another rate.
The same players I was playing with, also played this map in duel but I never spectated those games, unfortunately. I'm sure it plays decently in duel, and mega health probably plays a more important role on the map in that mode.
Regardless, the map looks really good. You used some nice textures.

Thanks for taking the time to provide some good feedback so far guys.
Originally I was thinking the railgun might be over powering on this map due to the openness. That spot that Burton mentioned near the cells / ledge you have three spawn pads in view.
With spawn farthest on it shouldn't be too much of an issue I hope.
With the ability to move around the map quickly that will hopefully help players get back in the game against a stacked player.
I've tweaked the top of the ladder so that its flush with the floor, it was bugging me. Also, I've removed that drone sound being played throughout the level, it was a getting a little repetitive and has been replaced with more subtle sounds.
Plus once the map is finalised I'll include the 32bit textures as well, which look nicer.
Other than that I'll wait and see if anyone else has any thoughts.

nah, i dont think its that open for railgun. i think rl would be more important in a map like this.

My map has been collecting dust on my hdd, but I've made a final compile of the map for anyone that's interested.
Everything is the same other than the spawn pads sunken in.

Yeah that's me, I changed aliases years back when some other quaker was using the same name.
I'll drop by when I get some free time, good to hear from you again.
Someone pointed out to me that I missed the high res textures, I've updated the zip file with the .tgas inlcuded.

I played this with Claire a bunch months back, glad to see it finished.
Too much good stuff to type out on my phone.
