Rock n' Roll Memorabilia
« on: April 06, 2009, 11:25:30 AM »
Here's another sob story on a lost opportunity.

In August 1967 the Jefferson Airplane came to town and played 5 NIGHTS in a row at O'Keefe center. They were at the height of their fame and represented the emerging San Francisco music scene. Me and my buddy took our dates to see the Saturday concert (with the Grateful dead also on the bill) and it was great. At the end when all the people left, we stuck around and were treated to a jam session with the 2 groups on stage. We wandered backstage and met Grace Slick and I got her to sign her autograph on my program. She also added some kind of statement to it. Jorma wandered in and I got his as well. I saved that program for sentimental reasons (and the autographs) for years. One day I'm checking the internet to see if others have written about their experience and I see a website dedicated to R n' R memorabilia and searched for my program. It's $1250 ....wtf! And that was with no autographs. Turns out the poster from that concert is also exceptionally rare and recently sold for around 5 grand. I anxiously search for my program and can't find it. Panicked I search every box and cubbyhole in the house. Nowhere. I had it my hands maybe 6 months before, so what the hell?. As I'm thinking, a sinking feeling is coming over me.
The previous year my wife and I split up and she moved out. She left behind clothes and boxes of shit. Not wanting to be her garbage cleaner (and have reminders around) I packed up all her detritus, drove to her new location and left it at her doorstep. Must have been 20 boxes. I'm sure one of my junk boxes was included in error.
Sigh....after almost 40 years of diligent saving...gone forever...

Here's a link to Wolfgang's Vault as well as a link to my item. A lot of stuff there.

My god that's old, but that's life, anything you lose will later seem more valuable than it did before, just like my family's boatloads of old software...

I don't worship the devil. Jesus is Lord, friend. He died for your sins. He will forgive you if you just ask.
