Must be something embedded throughout the entire file.

.wav files are not merely the raw sample data.  Each .wav file starts with a header, and some additional chunks of data, which specify information about the sample rate, bit width, compression format, etc.  Certain optional chunks, like the plst, smpl, or inst chunk, can specify additional information about cue points and loops.

Technical info here: http://www.sonicspot.com/guide/wavefiles.html

My guess is that these sounds may have a plst or smpl chunk which has some loop information set.

Hmm interesting link, I had no idea. :D

But I did get those sounds to work without looping using a workaround. I just opened a non-looping Q2 sound in windows SoundRecorder and inserted the custom wav at the begining. I then chopped it off and saved it and did the same for the rest of those machinegun bullet sounds. (They now are 22khz because I inserted them into a 22khz sound, but of course you could do the same thing and insert them into a 44khz non-looping sound).

Excellent! Yeah they do work properly now. Man, I can't believe I didn't try that already, I feel like such a jackass now.

Type out a little walkthrough about how you did that, perhaps this thread will come in handy for someone else one day.

DM server is fucked. 2 point blank rockets from spawn and lava damage and player survived? WTF?" Also someone has fucked with the spawn points, every single time no matter how big the map you spawn right in front of the person who killed you last
