i just got an audigy 2 zs and creative inspire 7.1 speakers+subwoofer
totaly worth it, even in older games like quake2 that dont have surround support
it sounds 100% better

so i just wanted to say that im gunna be owning you all now

i wish i could afford the top of the line stuff
but im always one step down from the newer stuff, not so bad

my current is a p4 ht 3ghz 800fsb, 1gb ddr 400 ram,  geforce 4 ti4600(upgrade to geforce 6600 gt on the way)
audigy 2 zs(my new sound card as of yesterday) and WinXP(gunna dual boot with mandriva linux soon)

my old system, which is gunna be rebuilt when i get my new sound card
will look like this, p4 1.5ghz, 640 rdram, geforce 4 ti4600(this will be used here after i get my next video card)
sound blaster pci 128(my old sound card, was my oldest part in my system rofl) and linux. not sure what distro i will use, probabaly mandriva if i like it

braggin about my system i feel sorry tho for those who dont have decent mid range comps
cus iv been there at one time 

to bad you dont live where i do omega, there this really awesome computer part depot, they dont really sell alot of new stuff
but they sell some pretty decent mid range comps for around 200-300 cdn, which you would probabaly pay 2x-3x more if you went to one of the bigger retail places

i think the reason why the dont cost so much is cus they come without an OS, which is sorta dumb since most of the people who buy these dont know the first thing about comps
windows xp is like 400 cdn. and i hate to admit it, but iv never bought windows at all  and that is why
microshit needs to smarten up are there gunna loose to linux. when windows vista comes out for the first week, it will probabaly cost like 600-700 cdn
i can buy 4 of those mid range computers from that depot for that price  rofl\

not to mention that it will only be good for one comp, 600cdn for windows to work on one comp!! no words can discribe how stupid/brainless ect. that is

The speakers aren't too expensive.... Only $100 retail unless you're lucky like me and get them for $60.
They don't make it sound a ton better, but they do help a little...  Mainly because they emulate a lot of sound in Q2.

Being the lucky guy I am, I get to keep top-of-the-range demo PCs for my own personal home use, and I pay NOTHING 

I have to give the stuff back after 6 months sadly, but then I get a replacement thats even better!

How do you deal with the rear speakers? wires across the celing & floor? 


Ohh, I was stuck with a Pentium 166Mhz W/MMX, 4MB Voodoo, 6GB HDD &  Soundblaster 128 PCI for years. It was only recently (Feb) that I got a new PC
(P4 2.4CGhz, 2x 80GB HDD's, 1024MB 400Mhz RAM & 256MB GF 6800GT


I soooooo dont miss slow computers.

if you use a low rez, this might look messed up

i would have put them behind me, but my room where i have my computer is small
probably wouldnt have made a difference, in games that support 3d sound. i can still figure out where they come from
from where my speakers our on my table iv gotten quake2 to support 3d sound with the newer ports like r1q2 and egl
it will mess you up for a bit, but iv gotten used to it now. it will play the sound in the particular speaker(s) and the others will be sorta of muffled

its much better tho, knowing exactly where those foot steps are coming from
