Quake FAQs, HOWTOs, and Articles / Auto record demo at map start
« on: February 26, 2024, 06:39:20 PM »
Just figured this out the other day, took the key bind I would run to start a demo that I found on this site, and combined it with a Q2PRO client feature to have it auto record a demo at the start of a map change (or Multiplayer game start). Now every Q2 MP game has a demo without trying to remember to record anything.
Add the following line to your q2.config.cfg
seta cl_beginmapcmd "record ${cl_mapname}_${com_date}_${com_time}"
Then you can check out all your games stats with a demo explorer tool (Q2WIPAN.EXE) or reliving that air rocket highlight reel in Q2RTX (have another script to copy all my demos to Q2RTX from Q2PRO dir, so I can replay the demos in Q2RTX but that’s another story)
NOTE: unsure what version of Q2PRO gained this feature so if your playing on the DEC 2014 ver. of Q2PRO you might need to upgrade (Tested on current release)
The more you know....
