Discussion / Re: Santher (me) as a jumpmod admin?
« on: October 19, 2007, 08:12:54 PM »
Haven't dealt tons with santher, but he's always been a nice guy, i've uploaded several maps for him and whatnot, can't complain, he's always courteous, and avoids the bad stuff, and a fine jumper he is, he's got my vote.
As for me, I'm hanging it up, just messaged quadz and asked him to 'un-admin' me. I guess usually admins stop showing up, and one day the title disappears. As for me, I'd rather give the notice then have it go out on bad  terms.  I've moved onto a better job and with it went my free time during the day. I'll be on from time to time, but not a lot.

Thanks for the fun times guys,

please try it out and send me back questions or compliments :P speed jump map

I thought you said you understood the ftp instructions that I emailed to you? No one's going to upload the maps for you. Do you still need me to take pictures with instructions? We have 2 threads explaining how to upload maps for a reason.

Console you beat me to it, looks like the script does work great:

Ridiculous! entered the game
anticheat Ridiculous! is not using anticheat.
Ridiculous!: NoCheat V2.34 Code\5156\ Server[69.9.168.4]
Ridiculous! was kicked
Ridiculous! disconnected

On another note, this is just classic....

[2007-08-14 Tue 09:09:22] 3=b0at: u cant be searching up my adress thats some illigal shit right there
[2007-08-14 Tue 09:09:28] 3=b0at: u cabn get 5 years in jail for that shit
[2007-08-14 Tue 09:09:32] 3=neoxotb: lol
[2007-08-14 Tue 09:09:33] 3=b0at: cuz only cops have the permition to do that

Looks like anyone who knows how the internet works will be heading to jail...according to b0at..... :???:

And this is hilarious...:

[2007-08-14 Tue 07:52:07] 3=b0at: there not letting me exercise my right of consieling my identity
[2007-08-14 Tue 07:52:15] 3=b0at: thats a serious federal offense
[2007-08-14 Tue 07:52:18] 3=b0at: if u didnt know
[2007-08-14 Tue 07:52:21] 3=b0at: u can even ask ur lawyer

This I've never heard of, but tastyspleen is a private server, not a government building. He needs to stay in school and learn the basics of law. I could just hear the conversation between him and a lawyer, 'They won't let me change nicks on jumpmod'  :bravo:

Ok, well I am here to ask if rule breakers should be temporerely or permenently banned. I have caught two specific users breaking rules, Mesnik^ and B0at. Mesnik^ on many occasions has reconnected to persistantly vote, B0at has been using multiple names. I am pissed off with them both, one b0at is a good player and can easily get leaderbord times, so he's stealing places from other people on the leaderbord. Two, he's a cheeky little twat who's already been temp-banned for this once already. Mesnik^ on the other hand has been warned on many occasions in front of me by admins about reconnecting to vote, and still he persistantly breaks the rules while admins are not around.

Thanks for posting.

Discussion / uploading maps
« on: August 08, 2007, 01:44:21 PM »
Several people have contacted me regarding uploading maps to the server. It has been outlined in this post ( http://tastyspleen.net/quake/forums/index.php?topic=5077.0 ) . However for those that don't understand or don't visit the forum, if you'll pass on this email address q2maps [at] gmail.com . I've opened that address for maps to be sent to and I'll post in the forum once they've been uploaded so that console can run the script. If you send a map to that email address and you see me online, please mention it so that I can take care of it, otherwise I'll check this email address as I remember.

Thanks,

Discussion / Re: blocking short cuts
« on: August 06, 2007, 10:39:37 AM »
quadz? I don't understand why the admins are resetting times and blocking short cuts. everybody in jumpmod are complaining about the admins blocking certain short cuts. We understand about some of the short cuts that cut the whole map out. and yes they should be block. but some of them are just simple short cuts that shouldn't be block. I'm afraid to finish a map cuz the admins might come in and reset the times. sometimes it's alot of work to finish a map and get a really good time. I don't know if anything can be done about this. I just thought i should bring it to you're attention. :-\

Good topic Fear,

I personally try not to make any map mods unless a user requests it and/or the map is broken. If this happens, I usually propose a vote to make sure that the majority want this done. This probably isn't the best rule of thumb, since only the users that are online at that time get to make the decision. A recent example was spjump30 (I believe that's the mapname). A user told me about a sc and said that it should be blocked. While on the map I took a vote and it passed. I blocked the sc and reset the times. Other than that, I don't go looking for sc's to block unless they cutoff  the majority of the map.

Discussion / Re: Jerky replays
« on: June 28, 2007, 08:29:31 AM »
I'm sure we've all seen them.....press replay for the kangaroo-juice slideshow playback?   The jumper obviously has a smooth run from his point of view but the replay is jerky and ugly to watch.

What causes this?  Is there any way to compensate for it and get a smooth replay?

Toxic,

If you watch some of the replays that merc holds first on, you'll see it's laggy. I believe he's in Russia and he gets a lot of latency because of that. Unfortunately, the replay doesn't omit that lag and you see it. I don't believe there's a way around it, it's just part of the design to replay exactly as it was played.

Quake / Re: GVN PLAYERS
« on: May 28, 2007, 01:01:15 PM »
So who here use to play at games.velocity.net when it was around?

Me! Although you won't know me as salamander, I used to live at GVN. In fact I was an admin there for about a year. I remember Captain Canada, Botch, Airiq, glockglock, Col. Kurtz, Pun, the obs clan, Corpus, Hugo, Superdave and of course Tebroc. Was a heck of a server and the last one I played until I found tastyspleen. Very glad to have GVN in back under a new name. Can't wait to play there! I went recently after I heard some talk about it and saw 4u2-Corpus and DirtyDog.
On another note, Habib is right, toward the end it got a little out of control, but before that it was one of the greatest servers to be on. Thanks for the post!

one map I found was Reflect2 .  it has no gun, and only has doors.

Towlie, I'll make a note to fix this one as soon as there's some downtime on the server. Thanks!

Actually, a topic like this would be useful to me.  And to jumpmod admins with the ability to tweak maps.

There are a number of maps on jumpmod that are "broken" and it would be nice to have a list of ones that need fixing.

Quadz,

Check my forum post in the admin section. I think I may have a solution.

I'll put my own name out there, because I've offered to help many times but haven't been taken up on it, so I'll offer

You realize, if you're an admin, you'll have to refrain from talking to people like this:

Well, I don't know what exactly to make of this...

Hmm...

Well anyway, how about you all please do nominate some new admin you all think will be an outstanding beacon of fairness, balance, and an all-around map-fixing wizard guru el-supremo.

Thanks!

I'll be honest with you, I don't claim to have all the answers, however, I do think that an admin that can be somewhat decent and fair above all. I'll throw some names in the ring -  Kingsize,  I'll put my own name out there, because I've offered to help many times but haven't been taken up on it, so I'll offer,  ^Whizard^ would be another good nominee.
I think it's a fair statement to make - just because you're a top 10 jumper, doesn't make you mature enough to be an admin. I would much rather have an admin with a good head on his shoulders that knows what responsibility is, than someone who can get a top 5 time every time. I don't think ability to jump and maturity to admin, go hand in hand.
