I'm not grasping at straws. Cannibalism is simply a fundamental doctrine of the Christian faith.

If anyone's grasping at straws right now, it's Christianity. And pretty much every other religion.

Assuming then the defensive, he justifies the Christian abstention from worship of the national deities by arguing that it is absurd and indecent, quoting at length the pagan poets and philosophers in support of his contention. Finally, he meets the charges of immorality by exposing the Christian ideal of purity, even in thought, and the inviolable sanctity of the marriage bond. In refuting the charge of cannibalism Athenagoras states that Christians detest all cruelty and murder, refusing to attend contests of gladiators and wild beasts and holding that women who use drugs to bring on abortion commit murder for which they will have to give an account to God.

Technically, Christians are cannibals. At every Sunday mass, the priest changes the bread and wine into the body and blood of Jesus Christ, which the congregation then eats and drinks.

That's cannibalism.

And no, the changing of the bread and wine into flesh and blood is not merely a symbolic transformation, at least not in Catholicism. Catholic doctrine states that the bread (communion wafer) and wine literally become the flesh and blood of Christ, which the people then eat and drink.

That's cannibalism, is it not?

Wasn't talking about you.

 :nosign:

Aww. I thought we might've had something going there for a minute. Oh well.

I never mean to bait or troll anyone. I just say what I think and respond to anyone who replies. If that's baiting and trolling then sue me.

By the way, you obviously CHOOSE to read my posts, so maybe you just need to suck it up and accept that maybe sometimes I have something valid to say. And if you're unable or unwilling to reply then that's about you, not me.

Regards

Well, historically, I guess that's the way religious people seem to think. Mammal doesn't agree with me, so let's burn him at the stake! Wheee!

PS: If I'm "baiting and trolling" I don't mean it. It just somehow comes out that way.

This one goes out to my biggest fan... you know who you are...

Hey, I do love ya Foc, but not that much.

And my message is not hateful,

Sure it is. And I agree with you that we should kill all the religious people for killing all the other religious people so that we never again have to put up with the religious people who kill people. And then once we kill those people for killing the religious people who killed the other religious people, we'll have to get more people to go and kill THOSE people. But they'll have to kill themselves afterwards, otherwise this whole business of getting people to kill people will get out of hand.

I never mentioned killing anyone. But funny that the previous post contained the word "kill" nine times, and all from the mouth of a so-called religious person.

Well there you go.

Hmmm... I would pray to God to send a trained firefighter.  :rocketleft:

And would God send you the trained firefighter? Or would that be the folks at the emergency call dispatch centre?

Let's say that you risked your life to save someone from a burning building, and afterwards everyone ignored you and praised "god" for saving that person. How would you feel about that?

Be honest.

But seriously folks...

I know you're all intelligent people here, so what I want to know is this.

Do you really, honestly, hand-on-heart believe in god?

Think about this before you answer. Do you really believe that there is an amorphous father-figure floating about up in the sky, or is it just wishful thinking? Perhaps you like the idea that you can commit sins then pray to the said father-figure and have your sins absolved without penalty? Or maybe you can't stand the idea we just rot away when we die, and the idea of a god provides you with the promise of something better? Hey, maybe you simply like the structure and social occasion of going to church every Sunday.

Let me put it another way. If you were trapped in a burning car wreck or a collapsing building, who would you have try to rescue you? God, or a trained firefighter?

Regards

If you were truly a "thinker" then you wouldn't believe in god  :P

Besides, did you know that astronomers consider everything apart from hydrogen and helium to be a metal? No? Well there you go.

Sometimes it's all just semantics.

I would really love to know why UFO's only ever make themselves slightly known to us.

If they're going to flash their lights at us or carve circles in fields of corn, why don't they just come right out and say "HERE I AM"?

And if they don't want to be seen, why don't they switch off their goddam headlights? Considering they have the technology to travel light-years to get here, I'm sure they could manage without a whole bunch of stupid flashing lights in the sky giving them away after they finally arrive.

There are no words.

Why can't you just fly a helicopter into outer space? If you run out of fuel on the way up, just make the propeller and gas tanks bigger. Do I have to think of EVERYTHING, Jesus turd burglarin' Christmas you people. :ohlord:

Focalor's "SPACECOPTER" in action!

Don't worry Foc, they laughed at Leonardo da Vinci too :)

First, I need you to know that everyone here loves you and wants you to do well in your life.

But the entire basis of helicopter levitation depends upon a supporting cushion of "solid" air. Basically, your idea of perpetual-vertical levitation makes about as much sense as astral travel. Okay if you believe in that, but I really don't think it's going to get you into outer space right now.

Tubby, why are you using Tastyspleen as a platform to spread your hateful message that you approve of religious based genocide, child murder, and animal abuse? I for one am SHOCKED AND O'PAULED.

Umm, because this is a religion thread?

And my message is not hateful, but purely neutral. In fact, atheism is possibly the most neutral belief system around. You gotta admit, historically, religion just tends to fuck up everything for everyone, and it is still doing so in many parts of the world.

For example, if it weren't for religion, do you think Afghanistan would be in the mess it is right now?

Not rocket science.

14
I'm not holding my breath for someone to come around and talk to me about that.

15
No, I really want to discuss the God who slaughters entire nations, crucifies his only son, and likes the smell of animals burning on the alter.

But thanks for asking :)
