Skins, Models and Maps / Re: New map finished - Tight (DM)

It took me some time, but it's almost ready small, tiny, tight CTF map :)
Just need to make a little YouTube video for it, and release it.

Inverted mouse!? Blasphemy!
Yamagi works "fine" but for fluent experience, I'm still using old Win7 machine - destined especially for this purpose.
There are so much interesting tweaks in many different clients, it would be nice to couple them together some day :)

 :welcome:
Do you like Rail Wars?
Do you like 1 on 1?
Do you like Deathmatch?
If so, this map could be an interest for you.
Very jumpy and quick, packed with weapons and stuff,
pure joy.

Another remix, this time based on old conversion made by Briareos - TLTF.
Recalibrated jump pads, tweaks and tricks here and there, but most importantly, quirky rules.
I've made this for myself, as a fun training ground, for practising second shot.
In regular DM game first shot from a railgun isn't deciding, it tilts the balance, but only second shot (sometimes third one) brings the success.
So that's the premise for this creation.
20 slugs for Railgun
5 grenades for Grenade Launcher
100 shell for Super Shotgun.
Railgun as the main weapon, grenades for disrupting,
Shotgun for close calls :)
And a little prize for brave accomplishments.
It works properly only with a dedicated config, but if you wish to use it in your own way, feel free.
If you decide to try it with my config, share your experiences (or send a demo .dm2 file).
....
A bit of history.
Many years ago I've made this map, and then for a long, long time I have been changing a configuration of
items and weapons, trying to catch the best and most enjoyable layout, and this is a result.
Right now when I try to recompile this map from the scratch, I get errors, back then I have used some trickery and magic to turn this on,
and now I don't remember what I hacked, and there are no any writings I should left.
So it is, what it is, partially unfinished, yet very enjoyable for me, thus I want to share and see if other players may like it too.

People, hear me (read me in this case:).
My page is emerging and has some goodies to offer.
Bright-skins and sounds for ya!
My goal is to immensely enrich this place on the net with time, for now, I have only a few pieces, but what pieces they are!
Just take a look.
Two different railguns, hyperblaster and epic male pain sound.:

Skins, Models and Maps / New map finished - ctfh2o (DM, CTF)
« on: August 08, 2018, 05:37:14 AM »
Hi everyone.
Who likes to play Capture The Flag?
Who likes to play Deathmatch?
Here is a new map, that was born in pain, and grew up in perplexity.
Now it's matured, and fills my heart with pride.
Take some time and look with a kind eye.
To introduce it properly i have prepared two movies.

One documentary helps to understand complicated process of creation,
and shows how to handle technical difficulties and obstacles:

Another one is just a plain gameplay with simple narration:

Quake / Re: CTF Players - question for you
« on: June 28, 2018, 07:24:47 AM »
I was on some CTF server the other day watching some folks 1v1.
(...)

People tend to hurt themselves for unclear reasons :)
Anyway, how would affect the gameplay in this scenario,  to have a BFG in a central point of a map?

There are several different versions of "CTF server".
(...)
Typical CTF maps (as far as I remember) will have a quad as central object which seems to be the most coveted power up
(...)

Very informative, thank you.
So quad then.

Quake / CTF Players - question for you
« on: June 27, 2018, 01:17:17 AM »
Hi everyone.
In pivotal point of classic vanilla CTF map should / shouldn't be, and why:

(1...
Quad

(2...
Invulnerability

(3...
BFG

(4...
Power Shield

(5...
Power Screen

Does this one do anything useful ?

I'm finishing a new CTF map for you, and i want to put there something to fight for.
Does BFG make sense on CTF maps? (traditional vanilla ones ?)

Thank you for your cooperation.

Free associations story, with some random driving, old school techno, and drone shots,
fragments of old movie and traditional Scottish Bagpipes on some square?
Focus dude!
Is it about you smoking too much shit?
Where are the links for download, where can i get those skins?
If you think that i'm a complainer...
Yes i am, it's my nature, but it's for your own good, trust me:)
So i'm not sure what was it all about...
What was an excuse, and what was an objective?

it is a very small and tight map.  was this made just for DM?

it would be cool if you mirrored it and add some hallways inbetween to make it a CTF map :)

It's a good idea.
It's a bad idea.
It will take time.
(...)
Yes, it is a fun map, that is quite good for Free For All, actually it's just a single chamber.
Let's take another one, glue them together, put two flags and voila - new CTF map is ready!
CTF is using the same engine, same weapons, same physics, but rules are different.
It's a different game, like checkers and chess.

Gluing together two DM maps doesn't work.
Actually i did that after finishing Tight, obviously flag has to land in the box with the switch,
but then this box has to be closer to the switch, so other boxes has to be in a different places,
you have to change lights (blue and red) and so one...
Amount of work grows exponentially.
"Gluing" them means creating another chamber that wil connect them in sensible way.
And "Creating" is the key here.
It's not something you do, it's something that comes to you.

Take a look:
https://youtu.be/EWAnf6D8oTo

This stuff takes time, days of trial and error, testing and modifying, and testing again.
My day has only 24 hours, and i have other stuff to do as well.
Quake 2 is for fun, so it has to be funny, and funny it is when satisfying things comes out of it.
It happens only from time to time.
So i'm on it, but it has to lay down and wait, until some idea comes to me,
and spare time will be generated to put this idea into practice.

Good map will be visited often, and by many players (hopefully),
and they will spend their time on it, valuable time of fun and joy.
So it has to be === Good.
No rush.

Skins, Models and Maps / New map finished - Tight (DM)
« on: May 27, 2018, 09:54:20 AM »

This map is tight!
Literally!
Figuratively!
Just came out awesome :)
I was working on my new set of bright skins, and i needed some place to test them out.
So i've made a small box with four most common light scenarios,
typical yellow/reddish, white - neutral, kind of blue, and no light (there is some luminescence from the sky, about 15).
To make a map with no other purpose, than to work as a catwalk, it's just against
nature. Form must follow function! Function is The Game!
So i've placed there few boxes.
Than, to make it more interesting, i've made a little elevation around,
just to keep the size, but expand jump possibilities.
Symmetrical teleports on sides came to me by itself.
My older map, Pac-Man, is rooted in my mind.
It is dull.
This one isn't.
This one has this idea of a maze and side teleports, like in Pac-Man,
but made in real Quake 2 style. I'm proud of it.
So yet again, even if you do something that make no sense and is dull,
after time it may leads to something great.
As a cherry on top, i've used one box from my other old map - Cornerius,
to make a central mystery box.
Lesson learned :)

https://www.ted.com/talks/j_j_abrams_mystery_box
And here it is, small in size, but big in playfulness / playability.
Give it a try and say what you think.

Here comes another taped game on LevelJ!  This game features Raptor Versus Omimthomimus, dinosaur Quake 2 player models by Conor O'Kane. Thanks again for the awesome man Fryziu.

Cool, so this map is playable :)
I see that you have interesting collection of models, and custom textures.
Everything looks nice and dandy.
Another map is in incubation stage.
When it's ready, i hope that you will find some time to test it,
and to record another nice demo.
For now have a good time and say hello to your Quake friends.
