Quake / Re: Another FPS games which we have servers for.
« on: January 26, 2018, 04:12:18 AM »
A SiN deathmatch server would be cool. I'd join in for a couple a games once in a while.

If anyone wants to get higher/widescreen resolutions in SiN:

vanilla / Re: avoiding giant maps (unless lots of players)

Would it be possible to remove the min player count on MINTRO? I've actually had a few 1v1s on it (after the others left) and I personally don't see it being that big of a map where you need a min X amount of players on it to have fun on. The teleports greatly help you maneuver the map quickly.

Just a thought...

My above post was from my mobile phone. Shouldn't even have posted that.

Here it is from my desktop:

Hell yeah!
Never thought this would come to Steam. Great news. The remade maps are so good!

Quake / Re: Quake 2 Coop Server -- maraakate.org -- 4 gamemodes, 100+ maps
« on: December 26, 2016, 11:36:39 AM »
This is a great coop server. I've been playing there quite regularly. The  ability to vote for map changes, game modes, difficulty settings etc. are amazing.  One of the best features is the checkpoint spawns; really convenient on larger levels.

One of the most frustrating things on the current TS coop server is spawning with only a blaster mid-game in front of a bunch of Gladiators. This isn't an issue on this server since you can vote for a map change. And eventually with the upcoming default weapon sets, you won't need to vote for a map change.

Look forward to the addition of more user maps.

Quake / Re: Open letter to Quake 2 fam (servers dying fast)

So it was discussed but never implemented and tested? Do the majority of DM players frequent the forums? I doubt it.. that's why I think an in-game voting system would be useful.

And yeah , the only q2dm map the vanilla server should have on rotation is q2dm8 IMHO..  Hehe

I love the DM server, but playing Q2DM1-8 can get boring fast. Would it out of the the question to add some of the vanilla server maps to the DM one? I noticed there is a group of regulars that play on the vanilla server but mostly during the daytime. Later in the day the vanilla server is empty with the exception of a few lurkers here and there. Would be nice to merge those vanilla server players with the
DM ones.

I know some vanilla/campaign maps are not ideal for DM but a lot are great for it. Perhaps another possibility is a voting system for maps? One time I 'mymap'ed jail1 on the vanilla server and and few guys hated the map. I felt bad for picking it despite the fact that it was a popular DM map back in the day and still enjoyable (to me) today. But having a voting system would help avoid people clearing out a server.  Another example was when we played FACT3 and there were too many players for such a small map according to some guys which pissed them off.

Ah ok.. I didn't know you could force anticheat to specific IPs, always thought it was all or none specified by server.  Hopefully the Yamagi devs eventually implement it coz that's my port of choice and gaining popularity.

Forced AC for chat? I didn't find anything he said to be that offensive, why not half mute instead of forced AC?

He often uses the word nigger.

Anyway, forgive my ignorance but what does AC stand for?

Man I wish I had half this guy's time to play Quake 2; that's a lot of chatter.

Quake / Re: Why Q2Pro over R1Q2
« on: July 08, 2016, 04:28:28 PM »
Well, I finally gave the Yamagi port a fair chance and it is now my favourite client. I regret not checking it out sooner. Yamagi is to Quake 2 what Quakespasm is to Quake 1; very authentic vanilla look (especially the colors!) with a few modern touches added to it which in no way takes away from its legacy. The net code feels decent as well but I'm no expert on that and haven't played many hours of MP yet.

I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to play Quake 2 as it looked in 1997 but with in-game music support (.OGG format), widescreen/custom resolutions and HUD scaling.

I used Q2pro for a long time but never liked the lack of support for music
So I switched to the unofficial 3.24 patch which basically adds wide-screen support resolutions and music.. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=208440395 I don't think you can get any more vanilla than that. What sucks is the slow downloads. I liked Q2pro for the fast downloads and in game browser. I wasn't a fan of the black outline/Borderlands style thing though I did get used to it.
