Think you misunderstood..  id's PAK1.PAK filesize is 12,686KB, the zip installation of the q2 kicker has a PAK2.PAK file who's size is also 12,686KB.  I opened both and compared the internal files and they look identical.  Was this PAK2.PAK placed in the kicker by mistake or does it have a reason for being there?  Right now I've taken it out of the baseq2 dir all together and am using id's PAK2.Pak instead that is 44KB in size.

Good news!  Found the patch for the 'rogue' mission pack as well. I have tested these patches with both games.  Maybe someone from here could put these ZIP files in tastyspleen's downloads archive?  Most of fileplanet/IGN download links don't work anymore and I'm uncertain how long the above link will work?

The problem was the DLL file, the above link will take you to an unofficial patch that was released in 2003, this is for the 'xatrix' mod only.  I've emailed the creator (if the email address still exists) and asked about a patch for the 'rogue' mission pack. I'll post here if there is one found.  Note:  this patch will not work with any previous saves... oh well. :(

I was looking over the PAK files in the kicker... is your PAK2 the same as id's PAK1?  The file size is the same and when I open both paks the files names are all the same and so are the sizes... so why PAK2?

I installed the "Die Hard" expansion and just like you said the load and save functions work fine on program restart. So looks like it's some incompatibility between r1q2 and the expansions.  I made sure the Dll's in the xatrix and rouge dirs were the same supplied from the q2-3.20 update and they are.  I'm at a loss here, think I'll just have to live with it.  Thanks for all the help.

Update: load & save works in original Q2 single player game but not with the expansion paks.  Do the DLL's in the xatrix and rouge folders need to be updated to work with the lastest version of r1q2?

Thanks Elysium,

I ended up getting R1Q2 to work by extracting it's pak files into my baseq2 folder... why this worked I don't know. I did this before reading your post though, so I'll try what you suggested too to see if that works as well.  BUT it appears that  R1Q2 has the same save and load problem as QPRQ2 has, all be it not exactlly the same.  It seems that I can save a game just fine and read it back in the load menu (QPRQ2 could not do this). and I can use load quick and save quick just fine.. but after I shut down the game/application and relaunch R1Q2 it will not load the save game and gives me this error:  GAME ERROR: READLEVEL: FUNCTION POINTERS HAVE MOVED.  I've looked at the save folder just before shutting down R1Q2 and I don't see anything beging removed on shutdown.  I have no explaination why I can save and load during game play but once the ap shuts down it can't read it's own save files... any clues here?

Just one more note:  I just tried using r1q2 instead of aprq2.  I did a standalone fresh install using the CD/single player Pak0.pak (179,686KB) file and r1q2 won't run a single player game at all... says no single player data found.  Yet aprq2 will run a single player game fine... just can't save.  Still no luck. :(

Trouble Shooting / Load Quick - Save Quick not working

Hi guys,

I'm running QPRQ2 v1.211.  I thought I'd go back and play through the single player missions again including the mission packs. I've never tired doing this using aprq2 before.  First thing I noticed is that the menu/save option does not work at all, won't let you type a name of a level at all. I do notice though that the save/current folder updates with a save file.  If I manually type "save quick" in the drop down window it does not write anything to the "quick" folder but updated the "current" folder instead.  does anyone have a fix for this problem?  It looks like the path(s) to the current folder are ok but for some reason won't read or write to any save folder.

On the plus side the games have never looked better running this version of Quake and runs awesome! I'd just like to be able to save instead of leaving my computer on for days trying to finish a single player game.

Thanks!
