Quake / Re: Disappearing player models

That looks to me like some very unluckily timed packet loss, nothing more. There's not much you can do about that, either. Maybe try playing at 2am instead?  :sorry:
For it to be unlucky, it would be unfrequent.  It's pretty much doing this all the time, especially in the evenings even though my ping doesn't change.  It's more than just packet loss, it's some server setting (I don't know what it's called) that's supposed to lessen the impact of wallhacking by being more strict as to when to send the player model, but it seems with anybody with more than 10 ping it seems it makes players disappear at the wrong time.   It doesn't do that in real vanilla quake2.  It's so bad tonight coupled with people constantly freezing and moving very fast that it made it pretty much impossible to rail and there's a couple people on there with 10 ping who jump out from behind corners and you actually see their rail trail before you see their player model, then you see their player model appear with zero speed then skip off like a jackrabbit across the map behind another corner or stop just before you lead your rail so you can't get an accurate shot off.  I really really wish this would get better, I wouldn't care so much but this is the only vanilla DM server in North America left populated with players around the clock and it's been a couple weeks like this and so far no comment of any mods or admins about it.

Quake / Disappearing player models
« on: December 30, 2012, 10:11:11 PM »
Recently I've noticed that some models are disappearing before they exit around a corner and not appearing right away as they emerge from a corner.  I've seen this kind of thing in the past and I get that it's to combat wallhacking, but I don't think it should affect game play how it is.  I get that it will affect higher pings sometimes but I have 50-60 ping and still have player models popping up out of nowhere and disappearing before they run off so you don't know if they went right/left or went spectator.  I made a clip of one where I would certainly have had enough time to twitch to rail the grunt but his model appeared out of thin air.  Not only that but pauses for a second in mid air possibly due to "lag" which happens frequently and people seem to evade leading rails with the jitter in their connection which seems to happen most often with bad wifi.   I'm not sure what can be done to fix the disappearing players and satisfy everybody's need for combating hacks and stuff.  Let's discuss it.
