Skins, Models and Maps / [AQ2] Countryside
« on: November 26, 2017, 01:29:46 PM »
Hello fellow Quakers!  :ilysign:

I have created a new map for the mod Action Quake 2 - Countryside
Download: wizardext.se/maps/countryside.zip

countryside.bsp

It's located out on the countryside. Abandoned houses. There are themes and landmark features in the map, to help the player navigate and call out locations; Barn, silos, antenna, garden, garage, graffiti. Overall subtle colors in the map. Yellow color coding on selected objects, to make them pop. It's a small map with the intention to be fun for all player types and weapons. Well suited for intense public games, clan matches and also smaller events; 2on2/1on1.

It took me about 4 months to create Countryside. All new textures. A long period of playtesting and careful tweaking.

This is my first map release using the Trenchbroom level editor. I warmly recommend it! If you like level editing, or want to try it out, give Trenchbroom a spin! For all my other previous released maps I used Worldcraft 1.6 and Gtk-/NetRadiant level editors.

Download and try it out! It's already up on the finnish Pelitutka servers, where it can be voted. We played it earlier today, it was a blast! Feedback is always welcome. Hope you like it!

Quake / Re: Mapping project for my upcoming mod

I might be interested in the near future. But I would like to know more. Exactly how does it work?

One thing I love about Quake 2 is how simple and fast it is. So if the MOD has a lot of features making it both slower and more strategic I might be less interested. I am not interested in porting any existing map and at the same time I think new maps will do much better for the MOD as they will be designed to fully take advantage of the new rules/features.

No matter what, will be interesting to follow. I suggest a lot of iterations and releases to get feedback and avoid mistakes early on.

If you think rok is worthy, we'll consider it as a write-in :)  I like rok too

 Cool! Maps that offer speed and a good variety of close and long range combat are often, in my opinion, the best maps. That way you can have all player types and you don't have to choose weapon to suit the map, you can choose a weapon that suits your style of playing. I just love to see a player with a Handcannon and slippers blast away a camping Sniper.  :frag:

welcome to TS Wiz!

I think a lot of work can be put into demos. Play, Pause, Rewind, Fast forward, Slow motion. Maybe the ability to add markers to a demo to faster find a highlight.

I love the trigger system in AprQ2. I use this feature for a lot of things when playing AQ2.

I put my votes on Urban, Teamjungle, Time and Wfall. I think they all suite 3vs3 very well and they are all very easy to learn. Urban got a vote only because it's so classic and fun to play. I should probably have voted Actcity2 instead. Hihi!  :nana:

Maps like kumanru, monastery and wargroun are good maps with close combat fighting, but they could create long rounds when there are 1on1 situations due to their maze-like layout. But they sure offer some nerve-wracking moments.  :uhoh:

Rok is a map that I think should be in the poll. It's without a doubt my favorite AQ2 map. Maybe next time.
