Well so far a few levels in, I am finding this to be a very pleasantly unique experience that still feels like the Quake 2 I always knew and loved, just better and with more depth to it! The only thing so far I have noticed that really grates on me is that annoying weapon switch sound... I don't know why they felt THAT was necessary but hopefully they'll patch in an option if it doesn't already exist somewhere.

https://youtu.be/gHxH61UshHk I am glad this looks extremely faithful to the original aesthetics! Also, no words can describe how happy I am to see they are adding the N64 levels, its the version of the game I grew up with before getting into the PC version, it is quite unique and overlooked!!!

if the Quake 1 remaster is anything to go by, then id guess it wont be compatible with any of the Q2 ports etc, so highly doubt you could use it to join any TS servers, altho that would be great if it was possible.

I think unfortunately the developers won't bother trying to make the new port compatible with vanilla servers. A pity, really... That sucks!  :-\

Aye, that's the thing I'm afraid is 99% likely to be true. Time will tell just how easily moddable it proves to be.

Hey there longtime Wod-X lurker, first time poster. I just wanted to say thank you to Ice Wolf and Null for these awesomely playable beautiful maps you guys make and have been making. Your creativity and enthusiasm is inspiring, and makes the game more fun for all of us. I am always excited to check the Tastyspleen server to see when a new map has been uploaded. Thank you guys, keep on crushing it.

PLEASE READ INSTRUCTIONS FULLY! Extraction will not be possible without the pass below or the extractor itself. Please read the notes section as well.

1: Make sure you have 7-Zip installed, get it here https://www.7-zip.org/
2: Download archive from here http://www.mediafire.com/file/phquaqkendf8mrf/27feb2020whalefiles.7z/file
3: Extract archive with the password allyourweapons
4: drop the "weapons" folder found inside the archive directly into your "Quake2" folder, and you're done! (Skip replacing any existing files if windows asks to replace, if you're using any custom sounds or other assets for WOD-X you wish to keep)

General notes:

1: Keep ALL your client side downloads on while playing, this only contains the files needed to play all of the maps on the current randomized playlists of whale. This does not have everything that can be voted for on the server, as there are thousands of potential maps, this is just to get you into whale quickly and easily for playing the most commonly seen maps and their assets with far greater convenience and reliability, plus new maps are added regularly! This archive also includes most sounds, models, pics and effects required for the mod itself, absolutely no extras beyond essentials.

2: There's still some minor files missing due to the method of targeted file harvesting I used but the link here will be updated from time to time as I update the archive. I will also include commonly used player models later too once I can fix a few issues regarding those.

3: This archive and its contents are only intended for Whale (23.227.170.216:27910), many maps, including mod files have attributes and features that will only work for the Whale server and its exclusive version of Wod-X.

4: Q2Pro is highly recommended as your client and more reliable in every way including for further downloads via client, make sure you have latest version from here, https://skuller.net/q2pro/ R1Q2 is highly unstable for Wod-X and not recommended.

5: If there's any problems or questions, just ask here and I'll answer them to the best of my knowledge! If not, happy fragging!  :rocketright:  :rocketleft:

weapons / Brutal WODX mini Soundpack! (Early alpha release)

Releasing what was originally just a personal mini sound pack I put together for myself to enhance the experience of playing WODX on whale, this is not an exhaustive nor perfect replacement of every sound as there is a lot yet of existing sounds to be covered or changed, and is (hopefully) not final, this is merely what I have for now so I can get early feedback from veterans of the mod whom I mentioned this side project to, and may or may not even get further updates in the near future. So, if you're looking for a replacement of some of the most common weapon sounds and explosions that will wreck your speakers, wake the neighbors and just overall make the arena's you play on Whales Eye sound like a real raging battlefield on steroids? Then this sound pack may be for you!

This is mostly adapted sounds from Sergeant_Mark_IV's Brutal Doom ( https://www.moddb.com/members/sergeant-mark-iv/downloads ) as it has really great, really really loud sounds that are great for the WODX experience (Some are definitely too quiet after the conversion while others are overly loud in comparison and I will adjust them later)! There are a few other sounds in the mix as well, even a tiny few that are just tweaked stock sounds but not many of those. There's still a lot that could be added in due time but, time will tell if I can get around to that. So for now, enjoy this if you want a greatly amplified, Brutal sound experience!

How to install: Open your Quake2 directory, locate the "weapons" folder, and drop the "sound" folder inside it. If you have any custom sounds already for your WODX or wish to revert, I suggest making a backup copy of your existing "sound" folder first!

weapons / Recent new updates to WOD-X on Whale!

There have been some recent quality of life updates to WOD-X on the whale server, more will be coming in the near future to address long standing issues and player wishes so stay tuned here for further updates! Here are the main major changes at this time (Probably not all of the minor changes listed, but this should be about all of it until further updates)! The gameplay documentation will be updated accordingly soon as well.

1: Sentinel airstrike (paint 6) is now revamped and replaced with plasma strike! This brings forth a massive energy orb that will explode into a huge number of ball lightning grenades! Take good cover when this one goes off, or watch the light show, at your own great peril!

2: Ball Lightning Grenade (bind key/button "use ball lightning grenade") Vampire grenade is now replaced with this new grenade type (due to nasty bugs vampire had to go unfortunately)

3: Rocket Blaster (bind key "use rocket blaster"), which everyone has in the inventory, now homes in on players in flight! This gives everyone the means the protect themselves against aerial campers who may otherwise have a great deal of impunity. Make sure to lead your rocket shots far enough ahead of a high flying player as the rockets must get close enough to lock on automatically. A player is only counted as flying and tracked by rocket blaster rounds if they are actively using jetpack or hover. This is best for low and medium altitude players, you may still want to find that stinger launcher for those who are exceedingly high.

4: Push and pull commands also work on flying players once again so you can try to bring them back down to earth, maybe even smashing some bones in the process!

5: paralyzer cost is slightly cheaper. Other ammo values may also change/are changed, but not much

6: giant pulsing black shadow removed from black holes and alien/zombie spawners due to overly distracting nature, those of you who were bugged by this, please turn your dynamic lights back on, it's safe now : P!

7: Various behind the scenes code alterations that should hopefully reduce the probability of certain frequent server crashes, this however is not a catch all yet and will likely be worked further in due time, please report KNOWN or highly likely crash causes to me in private message please so I can verify with private testing and passing the relevant info on so it gets fixed. If a crash can be reproduced almost every time then it's highly likely we can fix it!

8: Banishing players to a custom destination via portals is now more reliable (such as into crushers and lava pits), occasionally players used to automatically teleport to safety due to a flaw in anti-stuck detection (preventing players from being banished into solid objects so they can't move other than die or teleport manually). You still need to make sure you don't banish players into walls or solid objects for successful results.

9: A major exploit was fixed.

Also a PSA due to incidents in the past, if you find an exploit (Such as one allowing unrestricted use of exceedingly powerful weapons without usual limits or ammo requirements to severe gameplay breaking degree) DO NOT share it with others (And don't underestimate our means of finding out about it, you are warned), you may only briefly test an exploit with care and discretion solely for the purpose of understanding its nature (preferably during lower traffic hours) in order to notify me via PM so I can look into it (You may and should notify r1 as well, but I am the one with more availability at this time to manage such matters and provide r1 the coder of the mod meaningful details, so always inform me too please). Do not tell another soul of it! It's imperative that game breaking exploits be contained as much as possible until a fix can be made! Failure to comply is a quick path to a ban sentence. This naturally applies to crash causing bugs as well.

Also, if you are questioned by either myself or r1 (We can verify ourselves via admin commands like speaking as console) on server about any activity that is abnormal or suspicious you must respond to our inquiries, do not attempt to hide/lie or deflect from an issue, it will not work. We understand if you may not even realize something you were doing was an exploit, there has been case of this as well, and usually one will just be warned verbally at first depending on the severity of the matter. If you're honestly unaware something was a problem and that's the case you have nothing to worry about provided we have full cooperation! Assistance with solving problems is always greatly appreciated!

Heh, I happen to be a regular watcher of Overlord DVD, sometimes his views are a little extreme or missing the point but he's actually a pretty entertaining guy, he's even made that which would never entertain me, indirectly entertaining due to giving him fuel to make more videos on (namely Star Trek Discovery, the franchise is so DEAD)  :lolsign:

I'd say at least some of those are probably unused sounds for sure. A lot of sounds have had to be changed, shuffled around or unassigned to prevent the mod from hitting the maximum limit of sounds without crashing and may explain some of those but I'm not really the one to know for sure so I'll have to forward this.

As for the plant, yeah that texture should be there, not sure why it wasn't included from the directories when I uploaded the map, I'll see what's wrong when I can get to it.

I've hardly been a fan of Trump, and certainly not his reckless aggressive twitter tactics before these events, but this is something I think his critics, so-called allies and above all, HIMSELF could afford to learn from about diplomacy, and that is the not-so shocking fact that diplomacy isn't the rocket science politicians make it out to be. This was the time to throw the political playbook out the window and simply do what needed to be done a VERY long time ago.

When you're willing to avoid preconditions and simply treat your opponent as a fellow human being, regardless of how flawed that one may be or what has happened before, amazing things can actually happen. Of course this doesn't mean caving outright and appeasing, hardly, this is just not letting ego and old politics get in the way of addressing today's different era of problems. But nonetheless doesn't mean this is going anywhere at all yet, both parties have yet to prove they can truly make a deal that isn't one-sided, much less keep one. This was merely the "start" that was needed in order for any possibility of a real deal having a chance at all of living.

This is my newest quickie that ended up turning into something a bit more than I originally planned and turned out rather fun, especially when it's main feature comes into play, as once time is about to run out (Ten minutes), I can assure you the flashing lights and air raid siren is not just for show (They occur about 90 seconds prior to detonation)! Your goal is to hit the frag limit before the whole facility is nuked by a mysterious alien technology warhead in containment!

And as a little bonus, have fun banishing your opponents into the convenient crusher in the third image as well for good laughs! And the exterior I admittedly didn't give a ton of purpose but has a few goodies, but auto turrets guard them to deter hiding outside the facility so watch out (There is more to be done eventually to truly complete the map including a lite version but for now this is plenty fun)!

But nonetheless he has been quite unpredictable and not sure what to make of these actions, maybe he really is reconsidering his situation, perhaps he has been thinking about this longer than anyone thought and wanted to make sure he was negotiating from a position of nuclear strength first. In a way that IS in line with what was said, they said they won't talk about anything until they completed their nuclear program, now they have done so enough, and suddenly this here is the case.

Never thought of it like that. That makes sense  :bravo:

And then there's things like this too, that certainly calls some things into question https://www.rt.com/news/416572-north-korea-executed-kim-return/ How many of the horror stories can we even be sure are true? I'm sure Kim's done lots of things, but with all the propaganda and agenda's everywhere on all sides, it's hard to know anything for sure.
