Just got off the phone with my ma. Mentioned it to her, and she said she remembers the Montgomery Ward catalog (says they used to call it the "Monkey Ward catalog") (... I dunno was that a thing, or just my nutty folks being nutty?), but doesn't really remember any of the stores. She grew up in the Avondale Estates and Stone Mountain area and doesn't remember ever seeing one, but said that there might've been one somewhere in downtown Atlanta.

Scattered all across the midwest south north to the coast - when someone mentioned the Montgomery Ward catalog it was indeed referred to as the "Monkey Ward catalog" among those who still are around it has been and will always be so :)

Yah... Last time I was in our local GC here (several years ago and it's gone with the wind now...following all the 'good' shops they killed off) I was looking for a Les Paul standard with P90's for my nephew. The guys there couldn't be bothered to give me a hook up so I told my nephew with me we'd drive to Little Rock, Tulsa or KC if we needed to but I would NOT go back to the GC - my nephew knew one of the guys and told him later lost out on a few k of sales because they were too busy (shop was empty) to bother... Not sorry to see them go... If I can remember how to do pics right, I'll post what I ended up with....

Now I'm really upset at you Quadz... I had to dry off my keyboard before I could reply... these types of posts ought to come with a 10 sec warning BEFORE viewing so us aged ones can set down our cuppa and be prepared before viewing something that causes us to laugh that much....

Where I grew up we even had party lines. This was where two homes shared a line, they used two ring voltage frequencies to selectively ring the parties. Occasionally if you went to use the phone you'd hear the other party using it. Courtesy dictated you immediately hang up the phone and not listen in. You'd wait a while and pick it up again to see whether the line was available.
God I'm old...
 :help:

Only two houses? :)   What was the occasionally funnest thing to do (I will agree it was NOT courteous to do) was to use the 300 baud dial-up modem for awhile on the line then after about 15 minutes listen to every complain about how bad the lines were getting - "did you hear that god-awful noise the phone line was making this morning?" and the like. NO ONE had a clue what a computer was, much less a modem, so, basically, we did any data transfer from midnight to 5.

In this area 60% of the rural lines are STILL basically party lines - technically. The pulse tone dialing kinda took away the hearing all the phones on the line ring when someone called you (two longs and a short here :) ) but if you dial your own number, the voice will come on and tell you "someone on your party line has called you. Please hang up and wait for your phone to ring." When it it rings and you pick it up the voice will tell you "someone on your party line has called you. Please wait for them to pick up the phone and begin talking."

Yep. You're old.. Me too :)  Pick up the phone:  "Sarah? Will you get me shorty over at the courthouse?" :) Or pick up the phone and click the hook a few times: Operator, I'd like Brentwood 5643 please" :)

I'm the one playing slide with the butter knife :)   My dad standing and my brother that's 2 1/2 years younger than me with the harmonica. I'm the only one of 6 kids that still plays anything though I have grandkids, nieces & nephews that all play / sing. I don't do much any more outside church or an occasional jam at the festivals around here.

I'm strictly about ounces of meat. If it's big and old, it might not be as tender as a younger doe, but it will still be hormone, antibiotic-free non-GMO meat. YUM.    :rocketleft:

Yes!  :headbang:  Let it hang a couple days it'll do.....

If anyone has any updates on players who have not been here for quite a while, please share.

For instance, does anyone know how Dukie is doing.  Has anyone heard any Granny updates.

Hey, Sarge....

Some of us are still around - for now :) - but time marches on. I don't get much comp time anymore so only so much for me. Miss playing I do. Miss times playing with Dukie & others...

Howdy QD!

I was told by those same minions of science at the age of 23 I would not live to be 25. I gave up on their "help" at the age of 27 and turned to Jesus.

Ya know, I think you only posted that because I'm wearing my CORRELATION ≠ CAUSATION T-shirt today!

;)

Howdy, Quadz. How are you doing these days?

:) Which has stood the test of time :)

Here's something into that as well:  Not a SINGLE PERSON has reversed their cancer or AIDS by praying to "God" about it.  EVERY PERSON has died who prayed to "God" solely to help them.  You want to know who's survived with cancer or AIDS?  People who go to hospitals, and get treated by doctors who know, you guessed it, SCIENCE.

This whole "God" horseshit has to go if we as a race are going to survive.  It's making our mentalities go backwards instead of forwards.

ex, I don't think I know you, but I look at this thread from time to time. Some can remember, early on I expressed my hopes the thread would be used as a way of expressing one's belief's (or non-beliefs) without any judgement from either side but rather be a free exchange of ideas. I guess that was a hope that perhaps people could rise above the usual degeneration that people seem to gravitate toward. It's sad, but I once again am disappointed in our - yes our - inability to do so - to allow someone to express their opinion, belief without having others spend so much time making fun and downright disrespecting others beliefs.

I suppose my continual hope for the best has some roots in the fact that at the same time I spent 2 + years in Southeast Asia learning just exactly how  horrible we treat one another I at the same time met people who were supposed to be "the enemy" show compassion and love toward those who were supposed to be their enemy.

After being put back together "by science" and I set off metal detectors everywhere I go :) , I was told by those same minions of science at the age of 23 I would not live to be 25. I gave up on their "help" at the age of 27 and turned to Jesus. Here's the bottom line:  At my age, it doesn't matter a whole lot to me whether people accept what I think or say, but I DO NOT depend on doctors or science to keep me going - I depend on my relationship with God through Jesus Christ. You might say, I'm one of those who you say don't exist. Since in August I will be turning 72, I'd say that's a little more than most, and I might drop dead tomorrow. However, I will say this (and Quadz knows I mean it) you are entirely entitled to your opinion as is everyone who follows this board but so are those who do not agree or believe the same as you do.

It would be nice if EVERYONE really did what we are quick to say - "treat others as you would have them treat you" or give others the same rights we expect others to give us....

Respectfully,

QD
