Yes. The default renderer is rather old anyway for a modern 400-series NVidia card (and is long unsupported), so in light of my card being stable during stress-testing, I thought I'd not mention it.

Oh.  Sorry, somehow I don't quite understand what you've said there.

Oops. Sorry, I forgot to quote UUD-40's question. He asked me if r1q2 crashed then. I said yes. So, no, the default renderer is not stable in R1Q2. It still freezes.

Have you tried the original ref_gl, just for diagnostic purposes?

I guess you could "pinpoint" the problem by trying the default opengl renderer. Does r1q2 crash then?

Thanks for trying to help, though.

On a side note, I tried Q2Pro, one of the anticheat-enabled clients. It does not freeze. Q2Pro seems to have a built-in renderer. However, Q2Pro's handling of physics and aliases and graphics is miserable compared to R1Q2/R1GL, IMHO (or I am just too used to the way my mouse and aliases work in R1Q2). I'd still like to have the problem solved in R1Q2/R1GL.

How often does this happen? Maybe you can try a different version of r1gl.
It happens at random intervals (could be a minute between two consecutive freezes, or 10 minutes, or 50 minutes). I'd say every 30 minutes on average.

It still freezes with R1GL 0.1.4. I don't think it's worth trying even older versions, since the 0.1.4 version was released in 2004.

idk... turn off multithreading in your nvidia control panel? old games dont like new hardware :P

Thanks, but it didn't help.

Trouble Shooting / R1Q2 freezes
« on: September 02, 2010, 09:05:38 AM »
Hello,

Every so often, R1Q2 freezes and stops responding. Well, there is not much to add to that problem description. I suspect that R1GL might be the culprit, since for each time R1Q2 freezed, there is a corresponding nvlddmkm error (which is, well, just a generic error…) in Event Viewer, as follows:
Quote
Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

Event ID: 14
EventData
   \Device\Video5
   CMDre 00000001 00000000 00000000 00000001 00000001
   0000000002003000000000000E00AAC0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
I tried several versions of the NVidia drivers to no avail. This happens neither in Windows nor in any other OpenGL/DirectX game. Turning off link state power managament in Power Options didn't help. I ran 3DMark for a couple hours, FurMark, Memtest86+, and Intel Burntest without any errors, so I am pretty sure it's not a hardware issue.

Windows 7 x64, GTX465, Core i7.

Anyone got any suggestions?

As far as I know, jumpmod admins don't have privileges to see IPs on our server.  (If I'm incorrect, someone please correct me.)

I would also add that it would seem preferrable to fix them, hadn't it been for the architecture of Q2 itself: none of the bugs I'm aware of, are just malformed commands or whatever, all of them are actually multiple-step attacks (oh well, I will not desribe those anywhere).

Yo kingy, that's the reason why I am trusted:

Lohmatiy: If I ever wanted, I would easily get the server down just by using one of the bugs
Lohmatiy: or get a 15 lvl access

Do I need to point out the word "wanted"? The ts and wp (and crikey and whatever runs 1.07 and higher) servers are still running and everything goes fine, what's your problem there? The possibility of that I could use my knowledge to do something harmful? Ohhhh waaaaait, we shouldn't trust you then, bcuz ya can get a knife and kill the konsolezz!! There's such a possibility! K thx.

He has posted a short message on the first page, I tried to get him to write a longer one, but he preferred to explain it directly to me, both in Polish and English, he seems to be scared of being misunderstood because of his English, or, maybe, he thinks he would lose his administrative account for making a mistake.

So far, I had a conversation with santher on one of jump servers, seems like he did NOT do it on purpose.

1. edited_by was 'Dork'
2. the extra high jump he does on q2dm1hard, was too suspicious
3. Dork, while being an admin, was removing guns so players couldn't finish at all, and doing stuff like that

So santher, basing on these three facts, deemed Dork altered the gravity, but he didn't remember whether Dork was an admin then or not. Anyway, since he didn't want to abuse, and Dork got a better time now, I, personally, see no reason to remove his admin, maybe a warning. Plus santher did a lot of good work while fixing the maps and teaching ^WhIzArD^ the technical stuff, along with me.

Hmmm...

Maybe you forgot to restart Q2?

Check if you have that map in other directories (baseq2?).
