FPS Help, wtf?

I was fuckin around today playing a game and I noticed (for about the 20th time) that my fps would spike to 90...then in fire fights drop to as low as 11...so I did a quick check on my system on a few of the games I play (and want to play) and most of the games I do play/want to play should run these games no problem!....so I took a screen shot of my findings, this picture is a put against my comps ability to run Team Fortress 2.




It says my drivers are out of date on my video card, but I checked everywhere (even the manufacturers website) and they say my drivers are up to date.

I also play Wolfenstein: Enemy Terrirory.....now this game came out a very long time ago, and with my computer I should be able to run it crisp and smoothe at all times...I get 11 fps in fire fights at a 7 year old game...any help would be much appriciated

I'm no expert, basic questions would be do you have a virus (unlikely I'm guessing)?, video card overheating (less unlikely)?, have you compared FPS in big battles on low/medium/high graphic settings?

I see you have directx 7. You should update that for sure.

Your video card is not that great. I don't know if it should run TF2 that well, but it should run ET fairly well indeed. Does this happen in q2?

yes, I have to use pyrex's config settings for solid 40 fps (eek) and ya I did some comparing...and all 3 ran about the same, 90 fps when running around, as soon as a fire fight breaks out I drop to  a solid 11-22 fps..and on some maps I get that at all times.

Im installing the newest direct x in a moment but I have my doubts that it will help all that much--ill post back though thanks for the reply as well.

Your fps in q2 should definitely not be 40. I don't really know where to start to fix it though as I've pretty much never had fps issues in q2

I should still be able to play quake 2 and Wolfenstein with what I have no problem though

From the looks of it, you should be MORE than capable of turning out a good frame rate.

One thing you could do is check in your config to see if your gl_swapinterval setting is at 0 or 1. If you're using a flatscreen LCD monitor, it should definitely be at 0.

Perhaps you're using the wrong client. My system specs are pretty close to yours, and if you're running EGL, chances are it will start lagging like hell when there's lots of action. R1Q2 ftw!

Upgrading your graphics card isn't necessary just about ooo ahhh graphics but even run smooth graphics.

you should have at least a steady 60 fps or better in opengl when playing q2 if you expect to hold your own.

that onboard vid probably can't handle a busy map with lots of rockets flying and nades going off at the resolution you play, even with that horrible looking mipmap setting that pyrex uses to make everything "easier" for the vid card.

for around 30-50 bucks you can put in a pretty decent vid card that will draw a good 60fps.
