quake 2 max is slow

well i dont know shit about computers , i dont know if im leaving anything out thats what the front of the tower says.

but id imagine it can play an upgrade for a ten year old game.

it slows down really bad when i fire the hyperblaster, and a little when i fire anything.

i dropped all the q2max stuff into the quake2 directory out of folders, it didnt come with any instructions i could find and the FAQ is a joke.


it speeds back up a bit when i turn particles off, but then i cant see anything.

im using the hi res texture pack on low quality, ive got all the settings lowered

also may be good to note i copy pasted my config into the q2 max config.

if anybody knows whats up, thatd be cool

your graphics hardware is on board and it's are not that great. that's most likely your problem.

He's using an integrated graphics chip. One that's built right onto the motherboard as a cheap way to provide video for a system. Many bundelled pcs are produced that way. They are meant strictly for wordprocessing and web browsing.

Simply solution is to go buy a graphics card. You should be able to find one these days that would run quake2 for a good price.

Yeah, like Sigma mentioned, your video is almost useless. Those Intel on-board graphics chipsets are a joke. I've heard from several folks who use them that they have problems running even the least demanding graphics. Single player and multiplayer also causes a difference in video performance it seems. I've recently tried out a few of the different clients with those enhanced particle effects. None of them kept a frame rate high enough to be of any use for multiplayer. R1Q2 is still your best bet.

update the drivers @ intel's site (windows update WILL NOT get the latest) & run R1GL instead.  Won't look as great but will run great.  Don't plan on running anything pre-DX8 though: drivers support only DX8 & newer (on both XP & Vista).

My wife's laptop ran everything like crap until I went to the intel site & updated her drivers.  Now she can run anything up to Q3A no issues, 60+FPs.

hmm, yeah i guess ill go get a new card. i thought i had a fairly decent computer... i paid 200 dollars for it and a big flatscreen monitor, printer and some other stuff...

guess ill play oldschool style for a while.

the quake2 max with the hi res textures is awesome. now they need hi res player models and skins.
