What do you think?

Spotted this player 'stinker' today (vanilla server). I was playing him on previous maps and there was almost no way to dodge his railshots.
Of course he acted like he didn't know what I was talking about but he moved and turned like a total turd and yet he hit people with ridiculous accuracy. It's a pretty boring demo and at one point the score board blocks the view (forgot to put it away... doh), but the first shots alone should be enough to see what he was doing.

For now what I'll do is just force anticheat on the 98.222.*.* subnet.

I wonder...

Has anyone with a similar IP used the name Freakonaleash recently? I was at railz earlier yesterday having no trouble out-fragging him. Later in the evening, he was back, the server was packed with at least 7 folks, and he had a huge FPH count. It was rather fishy. When I switched to spec mode to watch him, he went to Xatrix. I followed him to Xatrix. Soon after that when he saw that I wasn't joining the game, he disconnected. Not calling anyone a cheat, but when you go from whooping the dog shit out of someone to having them whoop the shit out of you and another guy thats even better than you when it's only been a span of 2 or 3 hours... you gotta admit, seems fishy. I know some folks to warm up, but god damn, no one starts that cold, do they?

It appears that no-one outside of dsl.hstntx.sbcglobal.net has used the name Freakonaleash recently.

The IP, however, changes wildly.  One of the most dynamic IP's I've seen, changes apparently practically every time he connects.  Last change went from 99.130.*.* to 76.254.*.*.  But the dsl.hstntx.sbcglobal.net host stays consistent.

Clearly, your expertise is wallhacking, not aimbots. 

At 6:20 he makes an impressive 180 rail, 8:43 he makes a quick spawn frag and lastly at 8:48 he picks the guy off the top ledge.
These are not the kind of shots you would see from a newb like that.

Although the terminology seems to vary, there are at least a couple types of aimbot. 

One snaps the crosshair over to take a shot (then maybe snaps it back, depending on the bot.)  How far it is allowed to "snap" can be limited with radius settings.  So you need to get the crosshair pretty close, within the radius, and it snaps the shot at the 'correct' location.  The larger the radius, the more obvious visually the shots are snapping to the target in an unnatural way.  The less sophisticated versions of these aimbots tend to produce a fairly discernible "lock on" effect when used with chaingun or machinegun.  More sophisticated versions may try to simulate a more natural swaying of the crosshairs to make it harder to spot in a demo.

Another variety doesn't move the crosshair for you.  You move the crosshair yourself past the target and it takes the shot at the appropriate time.  This should work for weapons like railgun and shotgun, but I would not expect it to do much at all with chaingun or machinegun.

I thought ALL the common bots had settings for auto-fire on/off and bot FOV.  Way back in the good ole days at MPlayer, people would use the old ratbot, set the FOV to something like 360 and turn the auto-fire on. It was funny as hell as watch someone stand in the middle of Q2DM1 railing fuckers left and right out his back.

I was looking back over this thread and noticed some things:

the guy we refer to above as freakonaleash, is "JAYCAL" the cheater with the ratbot that gets caught a while later here: http://tastyspleen.net/quake/forums/index.php?topic=10580.0 and as a result got bant.

"stinker", based on the IP (98.222.*.*) and the style of aimbotting, is undoubtedly the same person as B2F^Twiztid AKA sC_Barn who also has forced AC on the IRTDM servers after he went from TS proper over to there to try and get away with using his hax.
